Soooo, no belief in “defending democracy” any more? Dont the Republicans in Texas own the majority? Not just of seats but of the popular vote?
Maybe win some elections instead of taking your ball and going home when you lose
Part of the votes that have to be cancelled involve relief funds for areas hit by the July 4 flash flooding. I hope the Republicans point that out often and loudly.Nope (IE yes I agree). They’ve done this several times before and they’ll do it again too. And it backfires on them every time.
Entitled to skip on voting for disaster relief for July 4th flooding? How NOBLE of themThey are gerrymandering, which they have every right to try to do.
But the rules require a quorum, and the Dems have every right to block the gerrymandering my scooting and depriving them of the quorum.
I can envision no law whereby they'd have to present themselves in the state, or at the state house, and which could pass constitutional muster. So, the Dems are likewise entitled to do what they are doing.

And at best it is a temporary measure considering that Texas will probably add around three more beautiful Red house districts (and EC votes) in the 20230 Census. And even more beautiful is the fact that those will come at the expense of California and New York. They are gerrymandering, which they have every right to try to do.

No. If I refuse to go to my job; they will fire me. Texas Speaker should hold them to the same standard. Either show up for work Monday morning or pack up your box and clear your deskWhether its a good idea is a different question. And tacking on things like disaster relief is not fooling anyone as to what its really about.
My point was that it would seem blatantly unconstitutional to me to require the Dems to physically go to X place, by a certain time.

It should be. Let’s have a constitutional amendment. Its not within the power of the Speaker, or the Governor, to fire them. And if they tried, it would be struck down before the ink is dry. Even the Supreme Court wouldn't abide that.
Agree, but why not with try to use it politically or go to court. They are gerrymandering, which they have every right to try to do.
