First responders ambushed and shot during Idaho wildfire.

Reports they've found a gunman dead. Sounds likely it was self inflicted. Not sure what the end game was for this guy (s).

Interested to find out more about this person.

We've seen time and time again in the modern day these folks are copy cat deranged individuals. They are suicidal and evil leads them to decide to kill others in the process. There is almost no defense for people who plan to die like a terrorist.

Sadly this is true. There's precious little to be done outside of getting lucky or the person is just crazy enough to f'up their plan in some way. When a person reaches a point where all the self-preservation instincts are removed it's almost a kind of super power. The only thing such people actually fear is failure.

one of the things I never get is the randomness of it.

If he is angry with Trump why not take it out on Trump, one of his appointees, or some federal group? or the BLM aholes who are angry at the government but burn down and loot the local 7-11.

maybe he has some beef with the local FD, but that seems stretched because they are the FD. PD would make sense for someone to have a beef with, but the FD? would have to be something really specific, down to an individual in the FD.

I don't see any path where shooting up the FD could improve anything otherwise.

Also, this one's making the news for whatever reason, but attacks on ambulances, EMTs, and firefighters are sadly not uncommon.

It wouldn’t even be the local FD responding that this guy might could have had some random encounter with…

This was likely a wildland fire crew. This dude would have had zero interactions with those guys.
