Couple of side benefits, it's actually decent money (especially for a kid) and great exercise for basketball.I’ve coached for years in basketball and just got into baseball. I know it exists, but our leagues are pretty good with not having over-bearing parents. It’s the adult coaches who bend or break rules or use petty things to their advantage that frustrate me.
I officiated basketball and umped baseball as a teenager. I admit that I can be critical at times as a coach, but it’s because of the effort, consistency, or being sloppy and not merely a wrong judgment call. But I’m thinking about getting back into officiating with my oldest son. They need younger people because some of the older ones that are left are struggling. I’ve been yelled at on the field and in my profession. I can take it, and I want my son to learn how to lead and take charge. I can protect him if we do it together.

Better job? Let's count their titles. Oh wait, they don't have any. Stop smoking crack. It's destroying your brain.Love UT but ARK is a better baseball job. Now if TV sticks around another decade and keeps doing what he’s doing then that could change but as of now it’s a better job (for baseball only). DW as AD does balance it out a little tho. The dude will give TV whatever he needs to compete at the highest level.
Dave Van Horn makes 1.4 million after his accomplishments. Tony makes 3 million. We have shown loyalty to him, and Tony has shown he can recruit better than Arkansas. One coach (Van Horn) has made Arkansas that job. Arkansas had been to 4 CWS before Van Horn. Tony has made it that way at UT and will get a statue at UT when he’s done.Love UT but ARK is a better baseball job. #1 problem with youth sports today are the parents.Little rant:
I got voted to coach my towns 8U softball all star team. I brought the 2 assistants that have been with me all year. I’ve coached the majority of the girls team for 3 seasons now. Most of the parents know me and how we operate. No coming to dugout during games. I bring water and other necessities for the girls.
I’ve had parents whisper/yell at their daughters really mean things.
So tonight we have a scrimmage to get ready for district. Our third base lady missed a pop up. No big deal. After the inning is over I talk to her about getting under the ball and we will work on it more next practice. The dad comes over and yells at her, she starts crying. I ask his daughter to come to the fence and cheer on her team with the other girls. He says it’s my daughter she will come over there when I tell her. I ask her again to go and she does so. I ask him what good does that do during the game. He said if I coached better he wouldn’t have to say anything to his daughter. I told him if he doesn’t like the way I coach, there’s a form at the beginning of every year asking parents who want to coach. Told him to put in for it. These girls are 8 yo. Man it breaks my heart seeing these girls cry cuz a grownup yelling at them. Please don’t let that be any of
Us with our children.
