Lady Vols Softball Coach Karen

Karen has had two of the finest softball pitchers who ever suited up. I can't remember how many natties she's had.
Do you know how many players are on a team, besides the pitcher? Every player has to execute to win a natty. How many teams would love to have the success that KW has brought to K'town?

I agree on the statements about holding a runner and walking HR hitters. I also think she should have had Pickens throw the rise ball very little or none at all against the HR hitters she faced in the tournament. I hope she will learn from this, get another couple of stud pitchers, get a better hitting coach, and win a NC in the next few years!

She doesn't need to be fired! But, she does need to improve in a few areas soon or walk away on her own terms soon! They just can't seem to get over the hump for some reason. If she can't get it done soon, I think she should walk away and allow an up and coming young former player have a chance at winning a NC!
Uh we literally beat them. And they lost to vanderbilt

Count me out of the fahr the coach crowd, but I absolutely agree about pitching a WALK in that situation. Iirc, there were two outs with runners on first and second base. A walk would have set up a forced out at home plate. Without the bases loaded, defending home plate and the game might have meant tagging the runner. Add a dangerous batter to the situation and pitching a walk seemed like a no-brainer. Thanks to the team for so many great plays and for never giving up. I enjoyed following this team throughout the season and know that we fans are very proud of them.
Coach Weekly also cost a lot of other teams a chance to even get to the WCWS. The Lady Vols just lost to a better team. I am proud of this team and their accomplishments.

have to agree that UCLA solid hitter that hit the home run, shoulda been walked even if it loaded the bases. . But I'm proud of what they accomplished and coming back to win the game. They keep nibbling at the finals each year, they're going to win a NC
Maybe in 2050

With a 29 year track record of coming up short. Yes if you can’t complete the job get someone who can. The job is to win championships.
there’s one coach a year that wins the championship and in softball that’s usually patty gasso. you aren’t getting her.

Former player as in former Lady Vol or former player in general?

I posted this earlier in another thread (and it was a big hit :D) so since it's a Karen thread, maybe we should look at her record for the last 3 seasons,

(3) Regional Championships
(2) Super Regional Championships
(2) times to the WCWS
(2) times SEC Coach of the Year

If you want a longer timeline.....

As for the mistakes some posters have alleged.....I would put Karlyn up against anyone at anytime. I don't see an issue with going with your players. Karlyn has struck out a lot of great batters this season. Karen does call pitches but how does anyone know if the pitcher hit the spot? It's easy to blame the coach or player but......I'll tell you one thing, both the players and coaches will own it.

On holding the player at 3rd, Oklahoma would have thrown her out if Karen had sent her.

All-in-all, a very nice accomplishment to be one of four teams left.

CKW is a great coach with a winning record. She has proven that. She has also proven that she cannot win the WCWS. She has also had good to great pitchers, (one per team). She never has power hitters that can get you over the hump at the top level this time of year. She’s had 29 years to get it done and hasn’t. She makes no in game decisions and she could have made the decision to walk the girl that won the Oklahoma game. I’m not saying it’s time to show her the door but a conversation about her time is coming. It has to. Everyone wants to be told they do a good job but sometimes you have to be told to change some of your philosophies to get to the next level. The game has changed and the home run has taken teams that beat us to another level. She needs to change some or be told it’s time to stay at the lake and enjoy her summers.

Coach Weekly has cost this Team a chance at the National Championship by her decisions in the playoff games. Her decision to hold up the runner at 3rd i the Oklahoma game cost us. Or at least we would of had a chance to score a run. The plays she challenges is another problem she cannot figure out. She should know anybody that is up to bat and is a good hitter with the game on the line with a base open........WALK THEM!
I think we have given her enough Time 20 plus years to get the Natty. Tennessee needs to start looking for a replacement now so we do not have to go through the Phil , Butch, Purit, sagas.
NO!!!!!

Showing a lot of trust in a player 15 feet in the grass receiving the ball as Mealer was full steam already around the bag 6-8 feet. I hope one day you have faith in our players as you do a weak arm 2B from OU.

That’s a split second call and not an absolute one to be successful. I missed it in real time and just saw it. The way people were talking, I thought it was a guarantee to score. Not in my opinion.

and I stand by my claim that I think she would have been thrown out. I fail to see how you can twist that into a lack of faith in our players but you continue to be you and troll away.
I have faith Mealer would have scored. You’ll get there. End result, we lose and fight out of the losers bracket. Glasco took a chance and playing for the title.

Troll, nega your post of defeat are all the same.

All-in-all, a very nice accomplishment to be one of four teams left.

And with all those accomplishments, not one natty. Zilch. Zero. Glasco didn’t start coaching until the age of 41 for his daughter’s team and may very well win something that has eluded Karen what seems a lifetime. And with less of a glaring resume that you posted. Fire Karen? Nope. But she should take notes.

As for sending the runner home, I guess it’s all about philosophy. Glasco sends his runners to steal home, Karen wouldn’t if given the opportunity. Yeah, sounds like a lack of trust.
