It is getting late to add someone and I do not believe we need to add anyone else. We have a lot of talent and will have a tough time finding enough playing time for the talent we already have. Call it a day and start determining the combinations which gives us the best opportunity to win.

I really don’t think this is true. We have literally nobody to come off the bench 1-3 unless you want to rely on Bishop Boswell or a non-Ament freshman. And if we want Ament to get minutes at the 4, the need is exacerbated even more

We have a deeper team than any I can remember in years. Some of the talent is young, but I believe thay will be highly ranked after SEC play begins.

Any word on what staff thinks of JG/ZZ coming back still? Either or both?

At some point if you keep Boswell, he has to play some minutes. We added Abram to start, but Boswell needs to play 10-15 minutes, otherwise, the staff wouldn’t have kept him. Amari Evans will probably get some minutes, too. I would be thrilled to get another veteran guy who can contribute-whether that’s Claude or getting Gainey back. But most teams shorten the rotation closer to postseason, and we have options on the bench.

The fact that the greatest reason to hope in Boswell is “Well, he’s still on the team” isn’t inspiring to me

At some point though, you don’t keep him to sit. It’s been said that the staff liked his development and think he can contribute. Just like every other freshman you recruit, you expect them to get better. He didn’t return to UT to ride the bench.

Barnes has consistently said to everyone, including the two of them, that the team has to proceed like it isn’t going to happen, and the two of them should too. It’s not in our control. I think the belief is ZZ will lose round one, but might win on appeal. The rule change feels inevitable, but the NCAA is a dinosaur. They’ll find a way to make it hard on everyone, and invite more litigation rather than handle it reasonably and quickly. You can bet they’ll find space for them if they’re here, but there’s no planning for something we can’t control.

Off topic. I know you mentioned around the Nico exit you didn’t want to venture to the football forum. But do you have any thoughts on this season or recruiting for 2026?

There are strong rumors that Claude was angling for a deal in the $3 - 4 million range, but it's telling that everyone of his early suitors have backed off (Duke, Gonzaga, Alabama). He'd be a great addition to the squad, but he's going to have to take a haircut. I'd watch for Washington as a player here as well.

I don’t want to go that far either. Just don’t want to count on him being ready to contribute when he didn’t even really show flashes last year. Doesn’t mean he won’t ever though
