The Official #10 Auburn @ #12 Tennessee Series Thread (Sat. May 3 11AM EDT) (Sun. May 4 1PM EDT) (Sun. May 4 45 mins after) (All games SECNET+)

Postponed?
Just got back to the hotel after today’s “game”. Here’s my 2 cents…

When we pulled into the G16 parking garage at 4:30pm today, it was raining hard and thundering and lightning. Stadium officials announced that LNS was closed andno fans were allowed entrance around 4:45pm.

After seeing UT’s social media announcement, we returned to LNS around 7:40pm. It was raining hard and thundering and lightning. I was absolutely shocked that first pitch was scheduled for 8pm. The 1/2 inning we sat through was steady rain with rather frequent lightning. Candidly, I’ve never seen anything like it. At Hattiesburg for the Supers in 23, the game was postponed for thunder and lightning that wasn’t seen nor heard. Meanwhile, we were watching a lightning display at LNS tonight. I never heard one PA update for the over 2 hours we waited. Really poor communication to say the least and UT’s social media updates weren’t much better.
My understanding is the coaches collaborate and decide the start time but once the game starts, it’s in the hands of the umpire. Candidly, I have no clue why we started the game and burned Liam Doyle. I’m no meteorologist, but the radar clearly showed thunderstorms. Really bizarre evening at LNS.

2-0 Auburn
I'm sorry we didn't get to listen to radio. At a funeral visitation in Memphis. Still on the road back to Franklin county.

What happened?
Will Liam not be able to pitch anymore this weekend? (And can someone explain to me how that works bc I think it has to do with them warming up and then needing to rest and?)

This stinks all the way around. How many innings did they get in?

I don’t know why Liam couldn’t pitch anymore, but you’d think he could get half an outing in with warmups and such. Kirby threw some in every game in the CWS. They only played half an inning in the rain, so obviously, Doyle wasn’t on point throwing a slick hunk of ice.

@preacherman20 Do you think Doyle could pitch on Sunday or do you think he’s done for the weekend? I’m guessing a top 10 pick starting pitcher is done after getting hot and throwing 23 pitches, but curious what you think?

EDIT: SEC+ broadcast showed 27 pitches for Doyle

A lot of things suck about tonight but this series is far from unwinnable. Hoping they can get all 3 in! Lived in this area my whole life and if you trust the weatherman you'll miss out on a lot in the warmer months. 🤞

A bit taken aback from the negativity in here tonight. Is what it is. What happens next is all that matters.

Go Vols!

The outfielders reacted like it was a hr.
No protest or demand for review
Can only imagine tho playing in that downpour and lightning ... this is just terrible. This team has really come against some challenges out of their control.

Didn't Killeen get hurt when a midweek player slid into him with cleet? Other injuries. Just seem to be jinxed. 😥

I just can’t imagine CTV was the one to make the decision. He’s too good of a coach to not understand the overall potential consequences of a decision like this. Maybe it works out. Maybe they end up playing tonight and win. Who knows. It’s just baffling to me.
But how long can Doyle be delayed and still pitch even if game restarts? I mean how long can his arm be cold and he still pitch safely?

It has been raining steadily here in West Tennessee for a few hours, so I think it is a good bet you guys are going to be damp in the morning when it gets over yonder.

That’s a question beyond my knowledge. It’s more than just protecting his arm. These guys have routines they stick to as much as possible. Even if CTV lets him throw in one of the games, I’m guessing his pitch count would be no more than 30. But, I’d be surprised if he throws at all. Who knows though. This is a huge series for the Vol with massive national seeding implications on the line, so I have no clue how CTV will handle it.
