Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I think we will be fine with Merklinger playing QB1. Only thing CJH needs Merk to do is be a game manager and ride the running game hard ...no crazy turnovers trying to play hero ball. The defense should be just as strong or stronger this upcoming season...

I know you guys think 17-10 games are boring but if that's what it takes to win "so be it".
Not sure the defense will be stronger. Losing their best DL and McCoy is coming off of a major injury.

lol is Nico’s dad trying to get this out there to make people think there’s interest?

Notice how the failed twitter journo said “here are the segments from our DMs regarding Nico getting offers over $4M” and yet the actual message from Nico’s dad says “the offers we have received are better, by a lot!” and never even specified a number or even alluded to it being close to $4M! Exaggeration is a classic tactic for controlling a narrative and I really feel like that’s the case here.

I think this is just too fishy. Not a single big name school seems to be interested and this dad has ruined his son’s football career for nothing but seems to stupid to even realize it.
I mean, it's all BS from a majorly untalented BS Artist, but... ???

He also had a $3 Million offer from Miami in the off-season allegedly.
He has negative leverage now. What a clusterhump of poor management. I'd be shocked if he gets anything close to the UT deal or lands at a major program. I'd bet good money that he's blackballed at major universities. . .

Let's say that hypothetically Nico showed up to practice on Friday, played in the Spring game, and all the stuff from his reps stayed out of the public light. After they pushed for a new deal before the playoffs, again in the winter portal window, and then through the Spring...you know Heupel was probably already prepared to cut ties. It's bad enough that you lose your starting QB at the end of Spring, but what's worse? How about him going through all pre-season practices and then threatening to sit out the season? I think Heupel knew that's where it was heading and maybe that's why everything was leaked...get it out in the open to help settle it one way or the other now so there's still time to make up for Nico's loss.

I'd also point out that we won 10 games last year with Nico...who had only played 1 game (bowl game) before taking over the starting job.

So if a staff was ready to hand the keys to a QB with just 45 attempts and we win 10 games....surely we can win 8 or more with the next man up?

We won 10 games with Dylan Sampson, without him we would’ve won 6-7.

We don’t have the defense or the luxury at RB/OL that we did last season.

So I don’t think it’s that simple.

I could see the OL being better. We weren’t good early last season. While Sanders is raw, he’s a better athlete than Campbell. Heard should be healthy. Our interior upgraded.

If a new QB hits 2 of the throws that Nico missed against Bama, it may not be a one score game. Many nuances.

Maybe it's a hot take...I think our OL is going to be better this season. We held on to Karic and Campbell Jr. because of experience and trying to keep Nico's dad happy.

I like a healthy Heard with a full year experience here under his belt over him banged up with no experience.

I like Moe outta the portal more than Karic (not even debatable honestly)

Cooper is the hardest guy to replace, but Satterwhite will be entering year 3 and has been able to learn under Cooper for 2 seasons

Seems like RG we got a bit of a battle (a big positive for us imo) but I think Pendleton wins it

RT I'll just say it plain, Campbell was a big time liability with his bad knees Sanders Jr. plays to his ranking and even the mistakes he makes will be worth the upgrade we see

RB, yeah we're not replacing Dylan Sampson with the guys on the roster... will probably be more RBBC like we saw before with Small/Wright.

But some of the OL worries will be well hidden with better QB play. Hendon & Milton showed that. They both played behind the same line and we saw completely different results.

On the other hand, UGA and Bama look considerably weaker than at any point over the last 15+ years. Both of their projected starting QBs look very mid. Maybe they will prove to be top tier SEC QBs, but they sure don't look like it from what we've seen so far. No one else on the schedule looks super tough. Maybe UF if Lagway proves legit, but I have my doubts. Napier may not even be the HC when we play because their schedule is brutal again. IF they are sitting there with 4-5 losses after the UGA game, Napier is probably gone.

Judging by your avi, you might want to consider smaller portions at mealtime.

And @Weezer needs to start cooking healthier meals for you.

Prayers for a flawless procedure and quick recovery.
@Weezer tries to serve me puppy stew and makes me throw up. He is a horrible cook anyway, but I don't eat cute little animals like he does.
