Recruiting Football Talk VIII

News spends one day arguing one side another day arguing the other. Every topic gets double coverage because there is only so much original content. The vast majority are on our side, with more of the vitriol now aimed at his team (Dad) than at Nico.
They call it the post-fact society, the noosphere, the media bubble. It really is just a culture founded on sentiment.

An example - pivoting now to blaming his team.

The fact Nico threatened to sit for the playoff game to negotiate more money gives me a disdain for the kid I did not originally have. At that point, you can't blame daddy anymore.

It's just a massive character issue. GTFO
I’m not sure it’s a fact just because pate said it but I wouldn’t be surprised. I would be surprised that if this wasn’t the route we were gonna take that we didn’t do it then, if that indeed happened. Still think there’s a lot of small details along the way that we don’t know about. Mostly because it seems Heup and Nico had a great relationship and were possibly a bit out of the know of what all was going on off the field.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but the "negotiation" had nothing to do with his fair market value.

I'm a software engineer. It would be very much like if I got hired. Then I went in and embedded myself in all the projects. Then I went back two months later and asked for more money because the operation would grind to a halt without me. That is at best bad faith negotiation, and at worst it is literal extortion.

The collective committed to him in every way possible, and Nico's team leveraged their own commitment against them. The idea that some governing body does not need rules in place that prevent that from happening is asinine.

I have said this before but once again “Praise Mama Mashack” and the many other vol parents that know how to be an advocate and an asset to their child while letting them make their own way. Praise Hendon’s family for sharing his story with us and Milton’s family for sharing the tragedy they went through. There are plenty of others but there are too many out there that aren’t thinking about what’s best for the kid just what’s best for them or their family right now. And in that last bit it’s fine and good if a kid wants to give back to his family but that should come from the heart not from family expecting it.
Praise Zakai Zeigler for devoting 4 years to our program. While he did benefit from Vol fans greatly after the house fire, he is the one who put in the work for our fans to love. He could have left for more money anytime. He loved his coach, his program, and his university, and he was loyal for the opportunity.

Interesting take from TJ Houshmandzadeh. BLUF: Nico and family say TN is lying, and that Heupel promised to tweak offense to better prepare Nico for the NFL, then didn't do it.

Ehhh a couple things: friend of the family so there’s that spin, NFL implementing college concepts so not sure I buy that this whole thing is about the offensive strategy (that he knowingly committed to), and I would like to know which Tennessee former players are saying Tennessee is not preparing them for the league because I have never heard that. If you going to make claims like that, leave no doubt that they are true statements. This sounds like it came straight from papa nic and while there maybe be a small truth there that it was a discussion item, I really doubt that’s what this is all about. Like, cmon.

But he didn't...so? Burns post is stupid and pointless...everybody would have been good with a raise if he deserved one, that's no big secret, and I think he would have gotten one had he played better.

All that being said...he was obviously being a massive mercenary pain in the ass the whole time...and I don't give a 💩 about his "people"...ultimately he is responsible.

I hope we stay away from slimy dishonest scum like him AND his scum "people" from now on.
Bit harsh. I can easily see how papa nic was running this train from the get go and Nico trusted him enough to do things he didn’t want to do (like say skip practice or pressure heup to make moves he thought necessary).

He’d play the Vols in Neyland… and if you thought the return of Lane was a blood bath, then this would rise to levels of hatred the likes of which this great country has never seen before.
I don’t think people hate nico anywhere close to as much as they hated kiffin.
