OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Outside of Tiger, he’s been my second favorite golfer. He and I are almost the same age so I kind of gravitated towards him.
Big Golf fan even when I was younger. Tom Watson was my favorite in my youth . Then I pulled for everyone to beat Tiger. Been following Rory's results for last 10 years but Scheffler is the next big thing.

Yeah Scottie is very good and I like his game also. I was rooting for Watson to win that 2009 Open Championship. He was damn near 60 kicking butt and just faltered at the end unfortunately. That dude was mighty impressive.

question for OR Wildcat insider @chuckiepoo ... heard Coach Matthews talking today about 94 when Peyton and that other hotshot kid (Brandon Stewart iirc?) had to unexpectedly step up when Jerry Colquitt went down ... what ever happened to Jerry? He probably would have made an outstanding coach.
I had already moved to Texas and we had twins in ‘93 so was on about raising a family.
Looks like he coached a few years and went on about making a living in an alternate career path. I can ask, though. Back 2 back 12-1 seasons is pretty tall cotton for an ORHS qb.

For the record, a Hall of Fame baseballer named … checks notes… Todd Helton stepped in first. When Helton was also injured (not seriously, thank goodness) several games after, that was when later Football Hall of Fame freshman Manning stepped in — in competition with freshman Brandon Stewart. As things go, there were, of course, fans who said at the time Stewart was better.

The backup qb is always better… 😉🤙🏼

Yeah I was at that game in the Rose Bowl... they all got a shot. Todd was in then out then in and came close to winning at the end.

Awesome! Good call. You're right: I had forgotten that part. And it was so sad about Colquitt; waited his turn and then his career ended in the first series.

I did get to see Helton beat Georgia football in Athens in person a few weeks later.

I think Colquitt would be a Vol people still talked about if he could have played that year. He was really good.

I was at home watching on TV. Legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson (whoa Nellie)
told the whole world "and here comes into the game folks Peyton Manning. The freshman phenon to play in his first game". Son of the great Archie Manning.
When he ran out onto the field he had a sissy way about how he trotted out there.

Just throwing this out randomly, but wow, there sure a core group of folks with a severe case of anal angst (butthurt) when it comes to Vols athletics. They come here and feel the need to validate their insufficiency by trying to drag others down with their nega Nancy routine. It get tiresome. They never have anything of substance to contribute to the conversation. Ok, rant over. Great weekend, Vols won the series at Ole piss and Lady Vols took out the fat heifers in Austin. Go Vols.

Are you talking about in the game thread area where the negative post(s) are?

Welcome to my world. For instance…fielding…after last season, in SEC ONLY Stats…we were 10th in fielding and won the thing. Before today, we were 10th, might be worse in the morning.

There are a lot of folks who just look for the bad, without taking in the good, it’s unfortunate, but it’s the way it is.
