Recruiting Football Talk VIII

AND......

CAN WE STOP BASING OUR FEELINGS OFF THE RECRUITING SERVICES STAR RANKINGS AND JUST TRUST OUR COACHES TO BRING IN WHO WE NEED.
We did do that during Dooley...Pruitt...etc.

Protect the coach/"fit" recruiting vs reality.

There's always a reason UGA, Bama, OSU wins. Their coaches aren't brain surgeons I guarantee.

I just can’t help but keep but coming back to the feeling of this being a net detractor to our ability to win football games and keep building program momentum. Pay the man who gives you the best chance to win. Where is the drama in that? Until there’s rules, that’s the landscape. Which we essentially created. If he was gonna be gone after next season anyways who cares. You're not just buying him, you’re buying a year of development for the next guys.

Sure hope the team is able to rally around this enough to make up for the talent and development gap. And don’t lose anyone else because of it. Otherwise it’s a pretty huge risk to take a step back at this stage in building a talented and winning roster. And what’s 1-2 more million for that when the program brings in $300million+ annually.
I get it. the timing, how it was handled, when youre already the highest paid guy on the team. Coaches struggle to bring in WR and you're making demands.

No. Not gonna work.

Listening to the Vol radio feed. They aren't even calling the plays? Seem to only react when the crowd cheers bc of a TD.

Hard to follow. Is there a better way to follow?

Of course it's a net negative. I mean, obviously.

The problem is that "just pay him" is not a serious position to take. Just pay him what? Whatever he wants? 10 million? 50 million? 100 million?

This isn't monopoly money. Someone has to go to the people signing the checks and make the case for how the cost-benefit makes sense. At the moment that becomes impossible, their hand is forced.

Chris Lowe echoing my thoughts…I think this also has to do with the receiving corps which as of now we haven’t upgraded. Money probably the #1 thing but there are other factors as well.
If it was not about money and was about wide receivers, seems a pretty big mistake for us to 1) nit successfully retain our room and 2) not make the investment in the program of replenishing.

I think it’s too early to tell if this will be a step back or a step forward.

Without a transfer QB, it's extremely clear it's a step back. You're going from QB1 to QB2. That would matter for any team.

Hoping for 8-4, but I'm riding and defending Heupel regardless this year. This isn't on him and he made the right decision. We have to be ready to build toward 2026. It is what it is.

I’m not even at BVS

I’m 50/50 on whether I want to be emotionally and financially invested in college football as a form of entertainment.

What happened could happen to any program in this era, and I’m not sure the product on the field is that entertaining

The playoff was a snoozer last year if we are all honest with ourselves - not 100% sure it gets better from here
I don't have to be invested in college football to be invested in tennessee. I'd watch the Tennessee table tennis team if it was on tv.

They said at the start that this is basically an open practice. Groups all over the field doing drills. The "action" is 7 on 7 mostly. Too many folks injured and sick for full blown scrimmage.

Why this isnt talked about more by the media. I dont know. Pope hasnt done a damn thing. And his recruitng, sucks frankly. Considering what we have.

God my BVS is in a full blown outbreak. There isn’t enough pain killer and cortisone cream in the world for this.
Oddly enough I'm the opposite. I feel like we excised a tumor. Wouldn't have felt that way last week but from all I'm reading and reactions, his family was a cloud hanging over the program.

LOL... this has plenty to do with CJH and DW... he and ole Danny don't get a pass, they are very much to blame for this... I can guarantee you that if they had done what was expected by the fans, team, etc, and forked over the money to reload the WR room with elite talent that was certainly in the portal for the taking, however uncomfortable, his Dad would not have shopped his son around knowing the weapons/offense his son would play with would continue to be elite and would be competing for a championship again... Don't fool yourself. They took a financial gamble and it's blowing up in their face.
We don’t know that we wouldn’t be here anyways, but it makes one wonder.

I hope things change. We know they can coach....It could end of being Huepel and staffs lack of elite recruiting/taking projects that gets them on the hot seat:
I think it’s their dependence on experience over talent. This could be a great beta test season where they can’t rely on Bru and Squirrel but instead have to target Matthews, Staley and two of the freshmen.

Gotta admit I’m shocked how united the fanbase and media are on this. Haven’t seen a single person say UT should give in.
I’m in favor of compromise, mutually only a little dissatisfied. Not caving entirely, but meet in the middle. Surely that’s an option.
