Terrible timing. Take all the first team reps through spring and then pull this. Maybe him, maybe his “handlers”. Either way it’s a terrible look. You can say it’s just business, but I guarantee there are a lot of guys in that locker room that take it very personally. Just as a reminder, this is a guy that threw for 300 yards once (UTC) and only threw for over 200 yards once in a sec game. We won with defense and a great running game. Nobody in the NFL demands to renegotiate their contract after a year where they were in the bottom half of the conference at their position. You do that when you outperform your contract. Good luck to him.

The current problem is that NIL is demanded as a "right" verses as something that should be earned. Really good players that are worth what Nico is getting will through their effort on the field and their personality off the field, earn that organically if they are really worth it as their "name, image and likeness" becomes something that will influence folks to buy things.

NIL right now is just a money grab process that is based on "quick money" for a player. I get it that thought of need to make it now, but for the best players, building a brand that will carry to the next level should be more important.

Guess I am leaning towards chalking his loss to an NIL injury and going to next man up mode!

Lots of timing concerns, but not enough hard facts to do anything else. Especially need the rest of the roster vibes. Not a clue where they are on this. That is the most critical element for me with this timeline.

And here I thought Guarantano’s dad was a piece of work…

I don’t want to see Nico leave, but if this is what we are going to get after an average, albeit with flashes of promise, season, then I say let him walk. At this point, even if he does come back, the shadow of this entire thing is going hang heavy and it’s going to start a domino effect on the rest of the team. That could be worse than losing him outright. Plus, we don’t need the family drama and nonsense. My dad would have fought like hell for me, but he wouldn’t be trying to dictate my life to this degree. Be a man, tell your dad to back off, and figure it out like a man would.

Can Heupel go shopping and strengthen the OL/WR groups before the transfer window closes?
Has to. They got whipped all over the place in the trenches and they have like 5 or so scholarship receivers. Kind of a dire situation. I almost understand Nico's point, but the timing is atrocious and is backfiring badly

He's got one season and he will declare for the draft. What's he going to do to his next team that might be an issue? Leave after next year? Given.
Bruh, I get Nico.had a terrible offensive line at times.....but what the hell has he done that makes you think he can go pro in 1 year?

Or he sits 3 games in because he wants 500k more to actually dress out? Where does it end?

I doubt Nico would go against his daddy! Polynesian families are tight. With that said when you start letting the family get involved in the business you in big trouble. I would say the damage is already done regardless if he stays or leaves.
One thing is for certain though no-one knows the real story but the people inside the program.
