Read an article yesterday that mentioned whether Michelle Monaghan's character would make an appearance in this one.Cruise is a crazy loon. I love nearly everything he does in cinema.

TG is hokey as hell. It's good and slightly more "realistic" than Maverick but IMO, Maverick is a far better movie. The G pulls in Maverick are real for the most part and Cruise did admit to getting sick.Only have watched Maverick once. Though it was good, I never thought it was TG Original good.
Top Gun is just one of those movies that no matter how many times you've watched it, you'll always watch it once more. And I always thought the two characters that made that movie the cult classic it is was Goose and Ice Man. I was probably a bigger fan of Val Kilmer. His talent was varied and had few boundaries. The special on him a few years ago was really good. His long term health battle cut a brilliant career short and took him out of the spot light far too early. Maybe i missed some news reporting, but it seems Val went quietly without much noise in the media. My wife, I think, is the one that told me the day he died, and I don't recall seeing much at all about it.
Tom Cruise just speaks for himself. Seems his mission has always been to be the best at what he does and you rarely get less than your money's worth. I think he's wacky with his Scientology brainwashing, but that has no bearing on his generational on screen talent, nor how he puts himself into his roles.

In the early 90's I bought a (rear projection) big screen TV and I had a Pioneer amp and 4 big KLH speakers hooked to TV. My best friend would come to the lake on weekends and after a day of lakeing and cold beer we would put TG in the VCR and rattle the windows with "Highway to the Danger Zone".....!When my brother pretty much said the same thing as NorCal I argued that Top Gun had the better soundtrack, more devastating death and more great scenes. And, it stood on its on almost 40 years and didn't need TGM. TGM Needed TG.
According to him that's just my opinion.
Didn't have a big screen. But I did have a nice old school Denon receiver and a newer for time time top end Technics receiver. I rigged all that up pumping through some Bose 301 speakers that would thump with the best of the best.In the early 90's I bought a (rear projection) big screen TV and I had a Pioneer amp and 4 big KLH speakers hooked to TV.
