Trade Wars and Tariffs

Seeing it talked about a little, but not much. Isn't the real risk the one that companies that DO assemble in America (but of foreign sourced components) may just cut bait and get cheaper labor costs for assembly outside of the US? Especially if they're exporting a lot of the finished goods outside of the US anyway. Why pay the tariff coming in and deal with your goods being subject to a retaliatory tariff from some other country when they're exported out? Now do it all in Mexico - lower import tariffs, cheaper labor, and the final good, if exported from Mexico, won't be subject to retaliatory tariffs.

Make Mexico Great Again!

Trump hasn’t been giving away the country over the last 8 decades.
So you’re looking for a manufacturing job that pays 15 bucks an hour? Market forces have largely driven the global economy to where it is. Trying to undo normal market forces in general is a bad idea.

The funny thing is, is if Biden was the one doing these tariffs the same people in here defending trump would be throwing a fit. We are living in a south park episode
And the same people throwing a fit would be defending them. I’m just watching the show.

Oh sure, sure. The tariffs are all about helping out the foreign labor.

Sure.
Shouldnt they be...I mean y'all protest and riot at any slight inconvenience to a minority here..but forget the rest of the world because you need your iPhone and Nike cheap AF...forget the actual black slaves being used I Africa but defend the criminals s here...it clownish behaviors and you sir are the star clown

Biden use tariffs or at least his people did...no one complained...it was about the thousands of government jobs that were created without purpose other the. Abuse of our taxes ..they complained about unlimited spending. ...
When price jump 50% due to Trump tariffs then complain. And we will join right with you...until then it rings hollow....

The automated factories, along with the high paying jobs supporting them, need to be built here.

It’s hilarious that liberals pine for manufacturing to be located where wages are at poverty levels while expecting labor union members to vote for them here. And squawk about climate change while ignoring the environmental impact of manufacturing cheaper in non-regulated locations. And then shipping those cheap goods across the planet.

On the remote and outside chance, this works and we do see more investment and good jobs here in the US, will all of Trumps naysayers give Trump credit?

Yes. While the vast preponderance of the evidence predicts utter failure, if he succeeds I'll give him credit.

Sure. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that. There is nor reality where manufacturing back in the US is going to happen unless we go back in time. It costs too much already. You have to purchase land. You have hire employees with "living wages" (whatever TF that is), then you have unions, federal/state/local regulations, etc. It just makes sense to make your stuff in countries where human life has little to no value. Thats where the cost savings come from.

And trump has to not change his mind again in the meanwhile

I don’t like the left or the right. All crooks. Trump is just the worst.

Right, so of course your response Trump willfully tanking the stock market with bad policy is bring throw out out hypothetical nonsense like 'if this were democrats doing it, everyone against the moronic tariffs would be for them.'

Instead of all the feigned outrage how about sit back and see how it all plays out over the the next 3 to 6 months.

Trump is doing what he has said the United States needed to be doing since the mid 1980s. Go watch his interview on Oprah in 86 or 87 I think it was.

If there is ever a war with China do you think they would continue shipping stuff here? They could cripple us in 6 months simply by turning off the hose of stuff we get from there. All the medications/supplements, medical supplies, clothing, shoes, electronics.

President Trump knows that the US has to claw back it's manufacturing for us to surviveas a nation. Post WWII basically until Bill Clinton went into office every small town in the country had a manufacturing plant of some kind. That's no longer the case.
So you want a $15/hour manufacturing job? I mean honestly, who wants one?

With trumps approach to life and governance, no one who has to make decisions based on fact, reason and economics (i.e. big business), trusts trump. Big investment is going to be a tough sell.

I agree that the US needs to be more self-sufficient, but is trying to bully your friends and trading partners the way to go about doing it?

So automated factories with high paying jobs is the solution? Begs the question… why didn’t this happen pre-tariffs?

Trump hasn’t been giving away the country over the last 8 decades.

That's right, over the past 40 years he's been grabbing pussy, not paying contractors, party to thousands of lawsuits, accelerating political divisions and running businesses into the ground while being a walking embodiment of the seven deadly sins.

Trump has to go. He's killing the economy. I personally will have to work two more years now to retire. In my early 60s.

Seriously, he has to go.
Anti Trump rally going on now at the Kitty Hawk post office here in the Outer Banks population 33K. Estimated crowd size of 32,999.

+1
