Recruiting Football Talk VIII

UFL starts in a seven weeks (according to their SB commercial last night).

Not sure if I'll try and watch it or not. Probably? Hoping we have good Vols representation. Doesn't look like the final rosters are set yet but so far this seems to be the current VFL's in the UFL

Javonta Payton (Arlington Renegades)
Bryce Thompson (DC Defenders)
Paxton Brooks (DC Defenders)
Kyle Phillips (Birmingham Stallions)
Jacob Warren (Memphis Showboats)

And that appears to be it.

Figured we'd have more? I know some recent guys like Roman Harrison and Aaron Beasley likely didn't have the measurables for the NFL but I can't believe they're not good enough for the UFL. According to Glassdoor, the average UFL salary is between 65k-122k a year which isn't bad for a young guy right out of college.

So, I didnt mention that for a couple reasons.

A healthy Estrella changes the center position a lot.

Now, the 4 has me intruiged..... People wont like this, but I wonder if Cade is asked to move elsewhere this off season. The hustle is good, and dunks are fun, but he hasnt shown any offensive ability outside of the dunks.
I dont think we have a problem with our bigs. Okpara is an elite defender and I think his offensive game will expand next year. Getting Estrella back will help. Barnes doesn’t get rid of dependable guys who play defense so I expect Phillips back, and think his offense will improve as he continues to add weight. I will say though that I was disappointed by Milicic this season, especially in the second half. Just didn’t seem aggressive enough offensively or defensively. We really could have used him to stay out of foul trouble AND be a threat on offense. Last great game he had was on February 11th. Maybe wouldn’t have felt like we had to take so many threes and kept games closer when the threes weren’t dropping if he were as dependable on offense as we needed him to be. Very Olivier Nkamhoua reminiscent. Tons of athleticism, should be a force inside, can hit the outside shot, but could count on one hand the number of games where he played to the level he’s capable of.

Completely agree on Igor. Very disappointed in his performance this year. He could have been a poor man's DK, but rarely did he show the aggression needed for that. He was content to sit outside most games and brick 3s.

He fell the shortest of his potential in my opinion.

I thought early that he would eventually be our best player. Bad call on my part.

Cade played his heart out when on the floor. He wasn't physically where we would have liked but if Estrella is here and Cade's getting 10-15 a game it's more ideal. He continued to get better but Houston's inside group were just a lot more physically developed. Cade should be here for his full career.

Yeah...don't like picking on the guy but agree.

6'10" with actual passing and dribbling abilities and 121 of his 265 attempts were from deep. Far too big and far too low of a % from deep to have 46% of your shots coming from there. Even more frustrating when you realize that Igor was 2nd on the team in % from 2 at 60.4% only Cade was ahead of him at 63.6%

Agreed as well. When he did drive, he handled the ball well. At his size, I could see that as a real weapon but he didn't do that enough. Is some of that how Barnes coached him?

Remember when they said the chalk first two rounds would give us an amazing swt16 and E8?

Well only four of the twelve games were close at all.

Now that we lost the way we did...officially the worst NCAA tournament ever.

Gonna sound weird... but I think ON and Aidoo are more to blame. Barnes was willing to give Igor more of a greenlight, and he's a good shooter from deep even with this being a down year 31.4% is good.

But I think Igor was a prime example of "take easy over better" with his offense.
