2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I laughed 🤣
ha...I think even Barnes has finally realized he might want to focus a little more on offense.
He has at least attempted and effort in that department the last couple of years but this year he should be actively looking for guys that can score.
If they suck on defense then he can take on the challenge to make them better.
Can't be a team like Alabama/KY that can't stop anyone on defense and can't be Tennessee who can't put the ball in the hoop.
Need balance. I'm ok with a 60/40 type thing.
Can't be 80/20 or even 90/10 which is what we have been years past.

Gainey turned into one this year. He had some big games. But more would be nice.
I personally think he should have been more of a go-to scorer as the year went on. Today, I think he probably should have been that guy after about the twelve minute mark of the first half. He has been the one besides ZZ to give us that spark when Lanier was not scoring.

I just hope that the lesson Barnes takes away from this game isn’t that this team needs MORE defense because the #1 defense shut us down.
JP getting hurt, Cam transferring, Igor disappearing, D Stone didn’t do much. All these strained the offense. I dont think Barnes completely ignores the offense.

So who are we most likely to add from the portal?

I have heard about the McKneely kid, but I really don't know much about Gillespie

Who else besides them and what does next years team look like?
Maryland point guard, 6'1 athletic. Transfer from Belmont, was going to tennessee but didnt want to sit behind zig and gainey his jr year.

Good defender and average about 10-12 points a game.

The transfers we brought in this year (other than Felix) were supposed to be offensive players. Igor and Dubar just couldn’t make the transition from mid major to major ball.

I think because of the history of Barnes and Tennessee there's so much pressure on a final 4 that I think a brand new crew without the baggage might be a good thing. Just seems like a mental hurdle a lot of years, missing FTs, open shots

So let’s move on from the only coach to take us to back to back elite eights so we can finally get to a final four. Makes perfect sense…..some of the logic on here baffles me.

No I meant new transfers and roster turnover about to have. Obviously keep Barnes as long as he wants to stay

Chaz Vol is correct, this is what I've been screaming we need new blood with a new mindset

Igor was the weird one to me

I remember a Charlotte fan telling me Igor could absolutely light it up and I never really saw that.

He became a event role player for us though

I think Dubar would’ve got more minutes if Lanier didn’t come.
Igor did his job who became a great rebounder for us. I agree his offense lacked, but I believe we adjusted his role.

Igor is kind of unexplainable. He is so talented.

Dubar is understandable with all he dealt with personally. I am glad for his sake he was able to stick it out this year even if he didn’t get the personal results he wanted. It had to be good for him to be around the team the last year.

Our bigs today attempted 4 shots and scored 6 points combined. That level of production won’t beat any good team, much less a number 1seed. Maybe we need an upgrade at position coach?
Today is the day we really missed Estrella. Could have used him in the first half to get us buckets and boards while we were ice cold shooting. It wasn’t coaching related.

Is Igor that talented? At this level? He struggled the entire tournament and much of the SEC season. Foul prone and turnovers.

Igor remind me of a smaller but more talented than Uros Plasvic

With regard to position coaching for bigs, I do question whether we need a change. I agree, though, that we definitely could have used JP today.

Barnes needs to maybe hire a new shooting coach and adapt a new offensive mindset while adding some size and length on the perimeter. But it is Barnes and he has a system so I doubt he does those things

You could see the potential. He made a lot of plays off the dribble when he decided to. Inconsistent 3 point shot and weak hands at times. But you could see that he could dominate at a lower level.
