The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

Maryland is just a better basketball job than A&M and has an easier path to the NCAA's in the Big 10 than in the SEC, which will continue to get better. He peaked at A&M and is losing a ton of talent, so this would hardly be a surprise.

Lot of UK fans crying on Rupp's Rafters about Rick not pulling the starters.

Like...bro. First of all, cry about it.

Second, we have like 8 scholarship players lol. What do you want us to do?

That's so pathetic. Why was Pope pressing, fouling, and calling timeouts into the last minute of a blowout game? Did he empty his bench to give kids a chance to be on the court in an MM game? If Pope had raised the white flag, Rick would have emptied the bench.

Quite frankly, I was happy Rick kept up the intensity, because it would have burned a little if KY had hit 2-3 3's and made the final score look closer than the blowout it was.

Bama. Duke has length on length on length. Not to mention they have a generational talent in Flagg

Exactly. Duke has 5-6 kids who will be NBA players including the next generational one, and length and speed at every position. Maluach is an elite rim protector and lob threat, and they throw waves of talent at you.

Cracks me up with Scheyer getting all this praise when his greatest achievement is choosing the right 5-stars and top transfer talent in building his roster. Who is going to beat that group?

If we get by Houston, it'll be fascinating to see what Barnes & Co. come up with to somehow get them into an ugly rock fight. It would take a 1985 Villanova type effort, that's for sure.

I feel really good about today, kind of like I did before the Kentucky game. Something feels different about this group, a kind of steadfast refusal to let the ride end. ZZ, Shack, and Gainey know this is it, and as much as they want it for themselves, I really think they want it more for UT, Vol Nation, and especially coach Barnes.

The plan remains simple - rebound, rebound, and rebound some more, take care of the ball and value every possession, and shut off the 3-pt. line and make them take tough 2's. Do those things and shoot it like we have, and good things will happen.

Cmon guys. It’s gotta be the year. Just has to be. If not now, when?

Houston is a pretty perfect matchup for us. They are not explosive offensively and play slow like us so if they go off today you can rest knowing we will never make a final four haha.

I may eat these words but I agree. I feel strangely confident. I won't say I"m exepcting a W but I feel really good about one.

Last year headed into the EE agaisnt Purdue, I didn't feel very good about it. And the game turned out about like I expected. Now how I feel usually means absolutely nothing, as I was very nervous before the UK game.

Last year for me was more about Edey and the way he would be allowed to do virtually anything by the officials and the d-bags Painter and Bilas setting the tone that we were somehow over the line physically. That part was so aggravating it made it hard to feel really confident.

As I sit at a bar here in Indy across from the stadium, here are the keys to win.

Two slow yet efficient offenses. Our first shot offense is better. Their offensive rebounding is better.

This game will likely come down to rebounding and turnovers/mistakes. And by chance, free throw shooting.

Notwithstanding an outlier shooting game from either team.

Yup, limit their ORB and our turnovers first and foremost, second to that is make them score from 2, their #1 3pt% is what makes them so efficient offensively along with their ORB. Much like Kentucky run them off the line and make them take 2s one on one.

100%.

Half court 2's never produce those runs that will kill you, especially in what should be a close to the vest type of game where one run could be fatal. Take away the 3, make them one-and-done, take care of the ball, and shoot a decent % and we should be headed to San Antonio.

I have never been one to be superstitious or believe in black magic, but I officially believe this program has a hex on it. It’s the only explanation. What a disgusting performance. 😞

I'm straight up embarrassed. I know I'm in an irrational state of mind, but my God is this one of the worst performances I have ever seen.
Without a doubt the most embarrassing performance I've ever seen. It's one thing to get beat. But only Gainey and Okpara semi looked like they wanted to be out there playing. Just an embarrassing performance

ZZ and Lanier not doing anything is absolutely killing us. They're getting wide open looks now and not even close.

Worst part of this is that we are generating some great looks. Wide open brick after brick after brick.

I’m down here basically courtside and we honestly looked nervous to start the game.

And Chaz was struggling in warmups with his shot, which is beyond weird.

Maybe we’ve just lost our legs.

To not even be competitive in this game beyond the opening tip is just the worst part. I’d rather lose on a buzzer beater than this. To like never even have a glimmer of hope that we’d break through today……

We look like Kentucky did against us. Sloppy, low-effort, low-energy, getting beat on the boards and to every lose ball. Shooting poorly is a separate issue compounding the outcome. We just aren't affecting the things we can control like effort and energy. This team isn't built to overcome a deficit like this, so it will take a miracle. Probably much more likely that it balloons to 25 or 30 if we don't begin to show an ounce of pride and toughness.
