Pete Hegseth, Trump Dept of Defense nominee…

I understand what your saying .. But your responding after the fact.... the leak is the real issue....It was a Walz staffer that added JG...
I agree that how Goldberg got into the thread is the bigger deal.

It still seems kind of wild to me though for the SecDef to discuss a timetable for airstrikes, even if they don't mention specific targets, in a publicly available messaging app. The type of attack described is specific, and the times are specific. It would have been useful info to the Houthis.

I can see that after the fact... But prior to the bombs.. if the houthis did find the info.. What are they doing with the info IYO?

Eh, it definitely isn't nothing.

If Jake Sullivan put some details of a strike on the Houthis and inadvertently copied a reporter into the Signal thread, would you say that was "nothing?"
it is considered non-classified, even retired military people on social media says this is no 'war plan;...no details given..nothing...dates and times may have changed...people are making wild speculations

I mean, what do you think? Harden their defenses, prepare for an attack.

If our surprise attack wasn't actually a surprise attack, it makes it more likely that people get killed, or that it isn't very successful.

You are playing semantic games. Maybe that info wasn't classified...I really don't care.

My point is that it is still an F-up 1) for Goldberg to get added to the chat somehow and 2) to discuss sensitive, somewhat specific info about an upcoming surprise attack in a publicly available app.

Heard a comment on the radio, twiw, that the DoD had sent a memo to employees under the new administration, before this happened, not to use Signal.

Actually the app is approved by the goverment for use and if you read the chat you would have noticed that they had another communication tool for the sensitive actually classified information. Spare us with your outrage.

==============================

IIRC, I will see if I can find the interview where Hegseth said to those in the chat there was another gov't approved app for sensitive into. What was on Signal was non classified.

Goldberg getting added to the app is the only thing that should be investigated all the rest is nothing that the leftist media is trying to make into something just to attack Trump Adm

is providing precise grid coordinates and names of targets, with exact flight plans, and equipment used ALL required to call it a "war plan"? you guys are making that definition so specific it would be impossible to ever meet it.

and its not like the Houthis have a ton of fixed assets. its pretty conceivable for them to pick up and move themselves, and a decent bit of equipment within 2 hrs. and those strikes would have required "live" information to provide a good target, so it definitely would have changed the strike from a "hit" to a "miss" if the Houthis had 2hrs to make changes.

Jeffrey Goldberg is well-known for his sensationalist spin. Here are the facts about his latest story:

1. No “war plans” were discussed.

2. No classified material was sent to the thread.

3. The White House Counsel’s Office has provided guidance on a number of different platforms for President Trump’s top officials to communicate as safely and efficiently as possible.

As the National Security Council stated, the White House is looking into how Goldberg’s number was inadvertently added to the thread.

Thanks to the strong and decisive leadership of President Trump, and everyone in the group, the Houthi strikes were successful and effective. Terrorists were killed and that’s what matters most to President Trump.

They claim over 100k members.. That allot of people moving because they don't know who the target is

Having a timetable with specific times and the equipment to be used get posted there is an F-up. If that was leaked, it still would have given the Houthis a heads up on an attack, even if they didn't know exactly what the US planned to hit. They would undoubtedly assume that the US was coming to hit important/strategic assets or people, and could take actions to defend those against a strike.

"But it wasn't classified" or "but these weren't war plans" is missing the point.

They are gaslighting. Any information leaked is a leak - period.

They are going after this journalist for writing this story, but at least he didn't post SECDEF's timeline to X when he saw it... If he did, what would the reaction from the WH be? Would they say "no big deal, it wasn't classified..."?

At the very least with times and strike details, it should be considered CUI and not to be shared.

Great point. If he posted the message with the attack times when he saw it, these people saying "no big deal, that isn't classified" would want Goldberg tried for treason or something.

The side of the argument that is playing semantic games is usually the side that knows they are wrong about something.

Even if this wasn't classified, you'd have to be a real idiot to say that it wasn't sensitive and potentially damaging if it ended up in the wrong hands.

here's the bottom line of it all:

I am sure that is true. It can also be true that this story is a legitimate scandal. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Politicians who have accusations levied against them often reply with "this is politically motivated." I mean, I'm sure it is. It doesn't mean that what is being alleged isn't true though.

the only "scandal" here is how JG got in on the chat, who let him in and why.

Like him or not, the journalist showed a great deal of constraint and wisdom by waiting until the operation was concluded to release his piece. We live in a world where the first one to tweet information gets all the glory.
