Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Sampson did not run the 40 at the Combine to give himself extra time to train after his late-season hamstring injury, which limited him in the CFP loss at Ohio State in December. He did run on Tuesday, hitting the 4.46- to 4.49-second range on his two attempts, per sources.

The 6-foot-1, 334-pound Simmons, one of the strongest players in the program, said at the Combine he planned to do the bench press at Pro Day, but did not end up doing it on Tuesday.

McCoy also did not go through any drills or testing, just like at the Combine, as he fully recovers from a troublesome hamstring issue that forced his early departure from the Senior Bowl earlier in the draft process.

For the likes of Mays, Thomas and others, this was their chance to impress NFL scouts and position themselves for more workouts with teams and potentially to be drafted in April, and Thomas notably jumped into offensive line drills after finishing the defensive line workout.

Disappointing times for Sampson.

Also disappointed for Bru. Without working out at either the combine or pro day there’s no way he gets drafted, right?

Terrible news. Golf could use a somewhat competitive Tiger Woods right now.
Huge blow to golf. Tiger woods has been golf for 2 decades. He presided over golf's golden age. He brought more fans to golf than anyone ever. Heck he even drew my wife's attention and interest, I came home from work one Friday and caught her watching the Masters.

I mean… his longest run was 56 yards this year, definitely didnt show break away speed. Agility was great, but top end speed was meh

He is a little smaller than most of them, but there are a bunch of good to great NFL backs that didn’t break a 4.5. Kamara ran a 4.56. I know Dylan wanted to hit 4.4, but a 4.46 will be fine. Bijan Robinson ran a 4.46. Christian McCafrey ran a 4.48.

I’ll never understand the hate…that’s like hating manning…i understand Brady…but tiger played the right way while paying homage to the ones before him who paved the way..his only stain is his private life and that’s none of our business anyways..so he’s good with me.
his private life is a non-issue with me….. I mean Arnie was notorious for his womanizing and he’s an idol

There was something about Tiger I just didn’t like. I never met him, so it wasn’t an interaction I had. Maybe he was just too good too fast for me. HGH and other PED usage is highly rumored to have happened as well…..never proven.

He was driven more than any athlete I’ve heard about. That’s what made him great, and maybe what caused some to not be a fan. He wasn’t “real”almost machine like.

I’ve always maintained he’s 2nd best ever, but I could easily say #1.

Now that his career is winding down, I look back at it in awe. He’s a different person now, more accessible and I’ve grown to like him ….. a little😁

I'd say Bru won't be drafted, likely to get signed afterwards and then a NFL team can see what he's capable of without much investment.

For Sampson not sure those times really hurt his draft stock.

Omarion Hampton ran 4.46
Donovan Edwards ran 4.44
Quinshon Judkins ran 4.48
TreVeyon Henderson ran 4.43
Kaleb Johnson ran 4.57

Ashton Jeanty didn't run at combine, not sure if he has ran at pro day or if they've had it yet.

You only run at the combine if you know you're going to run fast. Thornton has likely been running 4.2s when training and he was healthy, Sampson at full health is probably flirty with 4.3 times. I'd say Simmons hurt himself by not doing bench. Most the NFL teams likely aren't going to be disappointed in a low number...but the "I'll bench at Pro Day" and then not delivering will be the big complaint there.

I think golfers had a hard time with Tiger because he wasn’t relatable in the way you said. Golfers like to see even the pros be humbled by the game from time to time, and for a long time, Tiger seemed immune from that. I think it’s the same reason it took golf fans a long time to warm up to Jack.

Why is that disappointing for Sampson? 4.4s and game film probably clocks him going faster than that. His biggest hurdle is that he plays RB and the league doesn’t value that as much as they used to.

I mean...had Sampson ran a 4.38 or something he would have made a legit case for himself being the 2nd RB taken.

But running 4.4s just kept him in that crowded 2nd tier of RBs

Maybe. Likely even. He also had a drastically different training regimen than pretty much every other golfer back then.
Yea, a training regime that included links to trainers associated with Barry Bonds’ HGH plug 😂
Also documented visits from a well known Juice Dr… at his home… for “experimental” treatments…

Dude was absolutely swollen.
