Catching reds on topwater plugs is always fun. Especially the big ones. They torpedo behind the baits and hit it with fury. There's nothing like catching reds. That's my addiction when it comes to fishing. I only get two weeks out of the year to go after them and I make the most of it. I only fish artificials and it's fun to find new lures that I know nobody else is using in that area...I halfway think my good fortune comes from presenting lures they never see. Topwater reds are a ton of fun too. Here's a beautiful red I landed the last time out.

If you want a fun, unique bait to try, look for 8-10" GULP eels. Red, cobia, and rockfish candy. More commonly used in the Chesapeake Bay because there's a huge eel population (live eels are common at bait shops too) but I'd bet a red would hit it anywhere. (This fish was 48" between 1-2 miles from shore. Found a huge school migrating North in the spring and went for a ride.)
