Trump is saying there probably not worth much, which I would probably agree. I remember when they said Afghanistan had all these resources and all these companies were coming in. I'm trying to figure out what he is signing, is this private property... government property. How does the comedian have the authority to just sign away property?

Its not a security deal or a peace deal. Earlier indications were the U.S. was asking for industry and gas infrastructure. Just make it all one big industrial park, which is kind of what I was getting at a few years back.

I seriously doubt there is much of anything... this is similar to what was claimed about Afghanistan, now if they are demanding gas/industry infrastructure there could be value there but not $100-200b worth. The problem nobody wants Western Ukraine and nobody wants those people.

The U.S. is just trying to protect its funds i.e. splitting the bounty before it all goes to Russia. But let's be honest there really isn't much there.

There was negotiations before Trump, the problem is its not nearly enough.

This appears to be starting to wind down now.

The only solution I could see is EU/Poland annexing Western Ukraine, after the annexing they withdraw the bulk of military equipment because it would no longer be needed. If the U.S. has a vested financial interest than there is that on the Western side. Russia gets the bulk of the assets already captured+/-. The issue with this is EU would have to control and fund the welfare state that is the Ukraine forever which is problematic. There is a few sticky issues with this besides funding but the majority of it would work.

This is basically what the Russian floated in 2022, which I spoke about then i.e. Western Ukraine annexed by Poland.

The U.S. lifts sanctions on Russia and starts to rebuild the relationship. Some eastern europe countries would be wise to make plans to protect itself and actually start to work with Russia especially on security as Europe is in trouble.

Most of this really doesn't need the Ukraine for approval as they are meaningless, same thing I said 2+ years ago.

Rumor mill is Trump upped price yesterday, 100% (from 50%) of mineral resources (not sure what we are truly talking, but on paper it looks like a FU... my guess is there is no or limited value here) plus more infrastructure and oil/gas which would go into a special fund. There are no U.S. guarantees nor any new commitments this is pure security for past commitments already made. No U.S. security commitments as well.

"But what about the DRC/Rwanda" doesn't really work when there's already a UN force in the DRC, and there's no equivalent of the Budapest Memorandum between the DRC and the US.

The English version says assurances in the title. The other language versions say guarantees. We signed all of them. The first article references Ukraines sovereignty and the existing borders. This has been my argument the whole time it’s ambiguous and inconsistent in the interpretations. However they gave up the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world to get everyone to sign it so to me at least that has significant value.
