President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Really?

I'm here to help.

Scenario 1: US basketball team is made up of NBA players who have been constant and vocal critics of trump. Their practice shirts say "Impeach Trump" and they refuse to stand for the anthem as long as trump is president.

They are playing a team from Laos that has never won an international game and has a starting center who is 5'11".
U.S.A U.S.A.

I don't know how this is hard for any of you

Trump's press secretary will "circle back around" for all the press who miss out on any happenings.
Well then, obviously nothing to worry about.

Are you relatively happy with what trump is doing and the direction in which he seems to be leading? (serious question)

I’m genuinely curious what most here think about his hostility toward Ukraine. Writing it off as negotiation tactics, rah rah f*** Ukraine (go Russia?), not in favor? What say you, fine folks?

Neutral. I think he is progressing through his promises at a good clip. We've checked half a dozen or so. He's gotten all (I think) his nominees through. I find him to be more productive this time compared to his first term...he seems to be reined in by his handlers better.
I don't have much faith in the DOGE findings or in upcoming substantial spending cuts. I don't pay much attention to his rhetoric with leaders of other countries bc I think he is just looking for a negotiating advantage.

Truth is my life didn't change at all (except inflation) under Biden and I don't expect it to under Trump.

Touched on that in my reply to Luther if you're interested.

Just never been a big fan of blind, unquestioning nationalism. Actually, I view it as a horrible characteristic.
So do I. But not when it comes to collective sporting events. Do you think citizens of oppressed countries cheer for their athletes in support of their countries leadership? Of course not. They do it in support of their peer citizen. It's not about government.

my main issue is just the amount of icing. I am not fundamentally against icing. but when its an inch thick its disgusting. I would rather have none than too much. I will typically have a pile of icing left over that I scrape off pretty much every cake I get.

its why I prefer cookie cake. a lot less icing.

This all day.

I scrape all the icing off, if its a storebought iced birthday cake for example and the icing has no flavor except "waaay too much sugar and food coloring". Disgusting. The exceptions are most notably cream cheese icing such as on carrotcake, or milk chocolate icing on yellow cake if homemade. Flavorless Diabetes inducing regular icing gets scraped off immediately. The most egregious icing offenses I have seen are on the "foo foo boutique" cupcakes from some bakeries...they have an inch to inch and half of icing bullcrap on top of them. In an attempt to justify them as "special" and costing $4 or $5 a piece. Ridiculous. Its a shame too, because the cake part is often excellent after you discard the half pound of sugar from the top.

I thought this was an interesting take:

There are times when who you consider to be your peer citizen is determined by things greater than proximity.

No. You are just as silly as those who "refuse to visit the White House" bc president x is in office. Childish. We are all Americans. Even when we are gross.

I'll never cheer for Missouri over UT in any sport. Even when my sister was captain of the Uniserity of Georgia Swim team. I cheered for her to win all of her events. But for UT to win the meet.

I don't know the facts or context of what you guys are talking about but the federal government acts coercive to States all the time with federal funding, matter of fact, the whole framework is geared towards you have to comply to get funding and that isn't always tied to specifics of the intent of the legislation. For example, when I was growing up the federal government was always attempting to get the States to limit alcohol to 21. Louisiana was one of the hold outs, the penalty was withholding highway funds.

For the record, I don't remember ever being carded in Louisiana even at 15... the only time I was carded was out of State. 🤣

A few states hold out on drinking age. States allowing drinking under 21 begin to lose federal funds
Still a solid 18 drinking age when I got my first brew at 15.

Old guy checking IDs at the door was a regular at our family grocery store; thought I was cooked. Put on my best sheepish smile and after a good five seconds of letting me fidget, waved me into the 111 Club in Cookeville. My seasoned drinking buddy - who'd had at least 6 more beers than me in his quaffing career - ordered me a Miller and was shocked - shocked - that I didn't find the taste as appealing as a candy apple.

Every 4 years the nation joins together and cheers on the US Swim Team.

Nobody (most) knows those kids.
Matters not what college cap they wore at Trials.
No matter of foreign policy informs anything.

America simply unites and cheers on Team USA to beat the sh!t out of Australia.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on this one.
Personally I see nothing more mindlessly childish than a blind loyalty based on nothing but location.

My kids were born and raised in GA have always cheered for UT over UGA. In fact, they cheer for pretty much everyone over UGA.

If your support is based on nothing more than proximity, then you are exactly like everyone else who supports based on nothing more that proximity..
