Gen Z is now 13-28.
Almost half are of legal drinking age. Extrapolate as you will, it isn't that close.
It's not just pure stats either, plenty of articles on younger folks foregoing alcohol. Partly driven by having grown up online, where every photo lives forever, and not wanting to age their skin and eyes with alcohol use. Part also to do with shifts toward other substances, "cali sober" if you will. Further pushing overall trends is a better understanding of the link between alcohol and cancer. The whole red wine health angle by the industry has been well exposed at this point. The memes about moms needing a glass by noon just to get through the day passed cringe-level years ago, especially with the increased awareness of mental health and self-care. The cool factor, if there ever was one, has been lost in recent years. Not near cigarettes yet, but trending that way.
But it is certainly a legit trend. NA bars are opening up. Craft beer isn't what it used to be. Not just Gen Z, but they are leading the way.
