I didn't realize it until a little while ago, but Phil Knight is 86 years old.

I'm sure when he is gone, Oregon will get a nice chunk in a one time thing-but what happens after that?

The rest of his family big time supporters also? A trust fund to continue contributions to the Ducks?

Anybody know?

The word is he's leaving most of it in a trust to fund Oregon nil

He has 34 billion. The interest alone would destroy college football

There is already rumors that the money is starting to slow down. However, they are in the B1G now so they will be fine.

It was cool when it happened. It was just us and Nebraska…over time it lost its luster when Nike re-emerged. Football team jerseys went from Sports Belle logo to Adidas

For me the one to watch is Michigan if Larry Ellison (who is 80) or his wife become more active.

The guy is worth $230B. He could drop $50B on Michigan and still be in the top 10 richest people on the planet. That kind of wealth, if fixated like Knight on college athletics, would be unstoppable.

You can already tell that’s happening. They flipped Bryce Underwood and I think I saw somewhere it was something like $12 million.

Much of this “money” is in stock. He’s not going to sell $50 billion in Oracle stock to simply give away. That would hit him 2 ways, 1 reduce his holdings & 2, the Oracle stock value would drop. It’s nothing to give $10 million or so but when you’re talking selling off their “seed corn”, no way. There’s a reason these people are filthy rich.

He's one of those "Buffett Pledge Billionaires" who has pledged to give away 90+% of his wealth.

If he makes good on that, he could toss 10-20M of his 1B+ shares of Oracle at an NIL group that's friendly to MI which would give them a nice dividend income without bothering the principle. That's hardly a stretch.

Dividends off those shares won’t generate the income the prior message indicated.

20 million shares would generate about $25million in dividend income. Yes very impactful, no question but the first school to sell to Saudis is the winner

Well, sure, but Ellison owns over a billion Oracle shares. If he drops 3% of his stock on MI athletics that's 30M shares which will generate $40+M if no one else donates a dime.

If he goes to 5%, you're starting to talk about real money and he'd still be in the top 10-15 wealthiest people.

We've seen what Knight has done at Oregon and he's poor, only worth about $35M, compared with $230B.

The response was to the statement made of 10-20mil shares. Of course if he gives up more it will generate more.

Division Street Collective is where the vast majority of Oregon NIL funds are located. They are very tight about how much they have stashed in the collective. General opinion is Uncle Phil is responsible for the majority of the funds with the rest coming from other Oregon supporters and Nike Execs.

The other contributors aren't living on food stamps, one of them just built a $4 million home about a quarter mile from my place.
