Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I live in Benton, guided on the Ocoee on Saturday's for about 7 years. Had a lot of fun, and some not so fun trips. Hard to beat a whitewater rafting trip for a good time.

Sure seems like the area or a specific rafting provider could advertise in the Tennessee markets with his NAME and IMAGE with a RUFFINg it on the RIVER campaign.

Agreed. Pro sports is fun, but being a diehard is cringey. With college you can have direct ties to the brand.

And I think the proof is in the diehard NFL fans themselves. They're all kinda.... weird dudes...
Yeah I've been a Vol and Titan for a while and there have been times where I liked the NFL more, but when I really put it into perspective the Vols just mean more.

The NFL didn't start to matter to anyone until the late 50's, when college goes back 100+ years.

Now the big boys of college football have way more tradition and are the only ones that can ever win a title, so it's hard to hold that against someone from like New Hampshire, that just doesn't have anything like that.

Something about pro sports is just more corporate though. Makes it less down to earth to me.

I woke up this morning being unable to turn my head to the left. If I find out why I'll let you know.

Last week I massively pulled my groin stepping out of a duck blind when my wader boot got snagged on the door.
I always hate when you turn your head too fast and one side of your neck feels like it freezes and is set on fire at the same time. Hasn't happened in a long time, but that sucks.

Yeah I mean you think of like Philly, Giants or Pats fans and they don't really have anything like college and their pro-sports teams are less corporate feel and more city-identity. In the South, it's just something extra to college sports. So I get that.

Look at Buffalo and Green Bay and those organizations are much more cultural and community based organizations. So those make sense.

Right on.

Pearl really struck me as a punk the other night. His players were punks, overreacting, fouling without being called, shaking their heads "No" at length at calls that didn't suit them, enacting all sorts of over-the-top fake-innocent pre-madonna gestures when they did foul. Pearl also seemed to have invented the basketball version of the fake injury time out.

Also, wasn't Pearl so obviously trying to upstage Kim Caldwell really in terribly bad taste? If Pearl's grandbaby was born in August, why trot her out exactly for Tennessee night when Caldwell's newborn son has been in the sports news?

Let's not forget the FAA having to turnaround a flight mid-air and return Pearl's team to Auburn in November because of player altercations and behavior that "could have gotten serious." Keep in mind that in the state of Alabama, accessory to murder is not "serious" when a basketball player is involved. I really actively dislike Bruce. And his son.

I saw that no sooner did the Birmingham officials swing our game to Bruce in the final couple of minutes the other night, than ESPN suddenly published a story claiming that, in their opinion, Bruce is the leading candidate for coach of the year.

I don't care if fans loved him here back in the day. I dislike him now.
I've hated him since he showed up shirtless and drunk at the Lady Vols game. He's a clown.

I recently heard about this young adult novel in which Schrodinger's cat and Pavlov's dog team up for a cross county adventure.
So I headed on down to the library to see if they had a copy for my 10 year old daughter.

The librarian said that my description rang a bell but she wasn't sure if it was there or not.

Drive thru your neck of the woods a lot. I refuse to go through Chattanooga and Atlanta on my way to Auburn to visit some grands. Leave Maryville area on 411 to Rome and latch onto 27 all the way to 85 14 miles from W of Bama border.

Actually take AL 53 as a shortcut from 411 to 411 as odd as that sounds. Takes us to Buc-ee’s at Calhoun as our halfway stretch and OTHER old age stop.

I am still mad that Enos never asked Daisy for a date..up there with the castaways never getting of Gilligans Island.
They never did on the show but they did get engaged on a "Hazzard Reunion" (or something like that) tv movie in the 90s. I don't remember if they actually got married or not.

It always cracked me up when Waylon Jennings would say "now Enos was the oldest vigin in Hazzard County".

Is Pope the weak link? We did not see DT doing this at Tn

I mean with all do respect, I seriously doubt ANY of the DBs at that Shrine Bowl compare to Georgia or OSU (the only 2 teams that really stopped Thornton).

The biggest reason Dont'e was limited here was 26 receptions. Nico missing the read, poor play calling, poor pass protection etc. it was pretty rare though that he just got "punked" in a 1 on 1 situation. Either he was being doubled or he was doing work.

25.4 yards per catch and 6 TDs when you only catch 26 balls is ridiculous numbers.

Florida Head Coach Todd Golden cleared of all Title9 charges.🧐

No evidence found..
I don't understand "no evidence found," which is UF's reported conclusion. Several of the accusations alleged repeated messages and (d-ck) pictures sent over the internet, if press reports are accurate. Now there is a fact of the matter with respect to those things, and the Feds have all of it. They have complete files on every American citizen in searchable storage (which Stasi never attained 😬). Those allegations are knowably true or false. If they are false, then there is evidence that false reports were filed; and if they are true, then there is evidence that he did at least some of what he was accused of. I never followed the details. If the women filed police reports, the local po po likely could get it. If he is innocent, I'm glad he was cleared. But "no evidence found" (in either direction) makes no sense to me. I also read that UF outsourced their Title IX investigation, which I didn't know was a thing. This sounds fishy, one way or the another.

Thoughts?

I think that's a super weak argument.

The old argument was good. The players were more than temporary contractors. Rivals were actual rivals, and the illusion wasn't shattered by one player leaving and playing for that rival the next season. You could get emotionally invested in the team because you knew the players would be around for their entire career, minus slim exceptions.

Can't make the old argument anymore.

Scouts are pegging Omar Norman-Lott as one of the top draft risers. They have one question though, why didn’t he play more? I wondered the same thing. Was it CRG love for BigO, was he in the dog house? He did seem to do a lot of immature things, but definitely should’ve played more snaps along with Tyre West IMO. I remember games of not seeing them two at all
