Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Good for them. They've been screwed for decades.
Absolutely, I agree. I believe the players should get every single penny they can get; and, yes, they have been getting screwed for decades now. They haven't ALWAYS been getting screwed; but, for the last couple of decades or so, yes they have, in a big way. Ever since billion-dollar TV deals were first signed, and the first video game played with their FACE on it...they have deserved a piece of that pie for awhile now, and then some.

I am for the players having lots of power...but, not ALL the power. Fine-tuned contracts and penalties for breaking them. Player signs contract, breaks it...penalty, based on what said contract states. School/collective signs a terrible contract with a player that finds loopholes in said terrible contract to benefit himself/herself, to find better opportunities...penalty, for whatever institution that didn't have it in writing, in legal documents, that a kid could transfer multiple times without, at least, paying back, at least, part of the money. If an institution is dumb enough to sign a contract without border lines, hats off to the kid.

Love the idea of the kids having to pay a buyout if they transfer.

Also think these contracts should be a 2 year minimum with penalties if they try to transfer before the 2 years.

Contracts eliminate the stupid off season negotiations….at least for the first 2 years.

A couple questions:

1) Then penalties on coaches if they “encourage” a kid to the portal?

Or if that’s not allowed…

2) You’re taking away a year of eligibility for a kid if a coach basically tells him he’ll never crack the depth chart after Y1. He could transfer somewhere else and play.

AP said in plain English on the radio today that there ARE NO MORE OFF THE FIELD COACHES/ANALYSTS. Coach Chop and others are now allowed on the field, and Chop is out recruiting right now. Chop is an on the field coach now.

I see posts all the time here about Chop getting an on field position. Apparently as of 2024 season he has an on field position. They did away with that restriction. Also said he thinks its 50/50 whether Ekeler stays or goes, neither would surprise him. AP said that dont assume Ekeler is leaving just because he isnt out on the road recruiting. Anybody can go now, but there are limits to how many people can go out .

This is on the show with Ramon and Kayla from today. I listened on youtube

Edit: read this post and it seems like i was being a d!ck. Caps were for emphasis, and surprise. I thought Chop was still an off field analyst too. AP says thats not the case though. Not trying to be a Dbag. If italics were a keystroke away like caps are...i would use them all the time for emphasis

There are still analysts and GAs. The new rules allow them expanded roles but the only ones allowed to leave campus to recruit replace an official on-field coach. You can pay them as much as you want, but there’s an expiration date for many coveting that official title…if only to flesh out a resume. Best hope I have is that Chop is Garner’s successor in waiting. But Ayers could also be a target for other staffs with on-field vacancies.
