One problem with the portal for us is landing depth, e.g., two OTs. Everybody in the portal wants to find a place to be a starter, and the whole universe of teams is available to them. They can drop down a level, if need be. Recruiting continues to trend up. We seem to have a lot more success holding on to those guys, losing only people who have been recruited or portalled over. The depth of our DL is a remarkable achievement in the portal age.

Proving that the entire DL unit plays is a great selling point.
You can get to the next level with plenty of reps, but not worn out.

It does best with same conference as the competition is similar. Unfortunately a win in other conferences, even the B1G, is not the same. This will be a fun game to watch though. Army is decent. View attachment 688269

It’s kinda pointless since Venables won’t be fired this year. But it would be interesting if he were fired in a couple years to see if he’d rather retire, go back to Clemson, or coach for his friend/former player Heupel. I’m not sure any of those would be off the table.

My goodness what’s happened to Florida State? How do you handle a coach that went 13-0 last season to 1-6 with preseason top 10 expectations this season? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that kind of collapse before.
