Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This Bama team doesn’t have the typical Nick Saban defense of old. Alabama has struggled this year under Kane Wommack.

I’m very confident that UT has the better defense.

Whichever offense makes the fewest mistakes and can hit a big play or two will win the game.

What’s positive for UT is that the game is at home and our offense won’t have 100,000 screaming fans when they’re on offense. Communication and disruption will be held in check, which will benefit us.
Point of order (not a criticism): Heupel dropped 52 on Saban while he was ranked #1 in one poll. And in particular we crushed Saban's specialty: his DBs. Never forget.

I'm join you in being confident we have the better defense. Comes down to whether Bama is allowed to hold like last year imo. Have to hope we don't get terrible red zone calls like we did on offense in the first half last year, too.

I am a little anxious about missing Pili as heart and also as signal caller. But let's f'n go, Tellander! And Arion has been solid and is extremely talented. I did feel safer with Pili as Milroe's nemesis if he tries to scramble up the middle. I guess Arion and Telander will share the green dot helmet tomorrow, in some fashion.

Feel so good about our DL I didn't even mention them. So pleased with our secondary too.

My worries before the season started, officiating and OL, are still my biggest worries.

We get to see Mike Matthews return kickoffs, it looks like, in addition to WR.

The Neyland crowd is the best crowd! LFG!

Vols: A million-ty eleven!
Bama: sucks

Talked to a friend in coaching that seems to think it’s for this reason. He doesn’t know for sure but he (and the profession) all thought Bennett would be the next to move on due to the landscape.

Also says the timing is likely due to him doing a solid for whichever assistant is now about to get a full year audition for the job.
NIL is great for the athletes but nothing but a huge @$$ stress bomb for Head Coaches. Now they have to recruit High school kids, re-recruit the players already on the team because of NIL implications. Then the 100 mph Portal has to be recruited for players. Add practice dealing with the media and everything else. I wouldn't want no part of that crap either.

Feeling good about tomorrow

No real reason except that we got ourselves a ball coach who I believe is going to make some serious adjustments to win the game

And I’m excited to see them
I like the optimism. I'm somewhat suspect because of the 'lack of adjustments' after the Arky game.

A waiter told us last night that fresh grouper is all the sudden scarce. (Mine was delish.) It's a stable near the gulf. Anybody heard that? The hurricanes?
People dont realize how important I26, and 40 are to interstate commerce. Our seafood comes from Florida, LA, and to a lesser extent SC. When I think Grouper. I think Florida.

Its a heavily regulated fish. With lots of infrastructure simply non existent, could be adding days to bring it inland. Couldve missed harvet time, could be its taking too long to get it to point of destination.

Maybe for the money you would. But it is a very difficult job. Heupel's accomplishment to date is still underestimated.

I'd rather have NIL unregulated because there are no just and reliable enforcers available other than the imagined perfect regulators that people are prone to assume when they are in the act of considering how things "should be" handled.

Speaking of enforcement, Heupel still won't be allowed his first full-sized recruiting class until 2028.

I usually lurk around in the game thread each week but this week I'm just watching the game and putting the phone away. Honestly, the game thread will be more toxic than usual I predict.
I'm thinking I might too. It was hell around here for days. Put me down as a game time decision.

The Albert Means Story:

I still can't believe that Bama is crying and blaming Fulmer for the Albert Means debacle. Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State), Houston Nutt (Arkansas) , RIp Scherer (Memphis), Jim Donnan (Georgia) and Phil Fulmer (Tennessee) all reported wrong doings to the NCAA. Stating Lynn Lang (Means' H.S. Coach) want $200K for Albert Means to play for a school.

But to this date there is zero accountability for wrongdoing by Bama in the eyes of their fans. It was all Phillip Fulmer's fault.
Lang brokered a deal with several Alabama boosters in the Memphis area where he received $30,000 from the boosters. The remaining $170K was paid after Means officially signed with Bama.
Lang demanded $6,000 in cash from a Kentucky booster in the presence of a Kentucky assistant coach Claude Bassett for Means to visit Kentucky.
In similar fashion Lang received $4,000 for each visit he arranged to Georgia and Alabama.
Jim Donnan gave Lang $700 out of pocket.
Rip Sherer promised free law school tuition.
Brad Lawing (Michigan State) said Lang demanded $200K to play at MSU, and that Lang would repay $50K that had already paid for Means.
Houston Nutt stated that Lang told his assistant coach that $200K was required to secure Means' enrollment.
Albert Means testified in Lang's trial that he never took the required standardized test for college admission. Means went on testify that Lang had another student take the test for him.
Federal Prosecutors provided evidence that Lang tried to sell Means to eight schools:
Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Kentucky
Memphis
Michigan State
Mississippi State
Tennessee
But because Fulmer testified, it's al his fault. Zero accountability for the Crimson Tide.

On Fan Duel the line went to -3.5 Bama
wagers are:

65% money on Bama
62% of bets on Bama.

Seems pretty normal to me. That looks like Pili news got baked in.
I forget who it was, but someone on here thought that the line would move to having the Vols favored by the end of the week.

I never understood how that could happen.

The free for all of the portal needs a major tweak
