Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yo serious question do we just not do that pop pass play to the TE anymore that hooker was so good at? I swear we don’t attack the seams with the TEs at all anymore and we barely did to start with.

Was watching a little bit of the highlights from yesterday and the thought came up.
Nico isn’t as developed as we had been led to believe. He’ll get there but a young Hendo wouldn’t make this work either. Especially with the pocket collapsing.

So..... one thing that hasnt been discussed much.

The hit from ONL on Green was dirty..... I dont think he went back in after it. Does anyone think there might ne an internal suspension there? I think its justified if so.
Idk everything seems dirty now days if you complain about it enough

This game is on banks probably moreso on Heuple. We still don't have a secondary that can cover granny clampet. His defense gave up the game winning drive against their backup QB with the QB not having to throw a pass except for a screen. Ive given him credit this year for his good defenses. Im going to be critical when his defense sucks. They sucked tonight.
You lose every argument you post when you spell Heupel wrong…☹️

Hey VN we could use some prayers from my son. He is a police officer in Nashville and was forced to use deadly force Friday night. He had only been with the force a year and one day. I will not share the video for content reasons, but if any of you are in LE or similar fields I would like your feedback. Just type in October 4 officer involved shooting Nashville in YouTube. My stomach has been in knots. I am just glad he is still with us. Great kid, graduated APSU Suma Cum Laude. He is a mess as you can imagine.
Some damn fine police work. Unfortunate ending, but thankfully we have people like your son willing to put themselves on the line for Tennesseans. Thank you, Officer Moore

True, he ran it a couple times last year but in garbage time against teams we outmatched but yeah against teams with good to great pass rushers with these tackles right now he might get obliterated since it takes a minute to develop.

I expected growing pains with Nico before the season since he’s still really young but because things went so well early I thought he might exceed those expectations I had and I guess not now. I guess let’s see what happens cause it is one game and we have a bunch more to go. Maybe he can get loose like Hooker did in 2021 after a few games and ball out.

I’M BACK BABY!!!! VOLS BY FIDDY!!!!11-1 LETS GOOOO!!!!!

Man this puts things into perspective. So sorry, Devo. Dr. Squatch makes Body wipes for men. I’d probably use that for your body. Then use what fresh water you have for scrubbing your face and hair.

Good idea on the clothes washing. You can use powdered detergent and less water for the washing part. Vinegar also works and you can soak the clothes, will use less water to rinse since no detergents
Body wipes and powder detergent! Pronto!

Great ideas

Wonder what they would have done when Tennessee started the season 0-6? My second year of med school. It was awful looking forward to football season and being handed loss after loss.

I sent a letter to Coach Majors begging him to turn it around and not lose to Memphis State. I told him that I couldn’t go home for Christmas if the Vols lost to Tiger High.
The Vols won the remaining games of the season. Final record was 5-6, but the Vols felt like they were winners by the end of the season. Tiger High was the first of 5 straight wins.

Coach Majors wrote me back after the tiger high game. He stated that he felt like the team was turning a corner. Some of the losses were close. He promised good results! He was a good man.

I was at that game as an 8 year old. Memphis came out in all navy blue.

I have to trust that Heupel is a great OC/offensive mind. He's fielded too many top 10 offenses for me to think he suddenly doesn't know what he's doing. I think that maybe he's just too enamored with his defense and was enjoying playing a very safe brand of football. Too many coaches do that for it to not be appealing to them. And perhaps those two picks vs NC State and strip sacks vs OU spooked him.

But he needs to realize that you only get maybe 1 win per season turtling up like that in the SEC unless you have an absolutely ELITE defense. He's got to accept the bad with the good on offense and trust his guys to make plays.
I think the two blind-side strip-sacks (one deep in our own territory) at Okie (both in the second quarter) would alarm anyone. Maybe it was not overconfidence in the defense because they did immediately turn Okie over both times, so much as realizing the great improbability of that on a regular basis. Not to say that the turnovers we got were any "luckier" than the ones we gave up. I rewatched the first half Friday night and I was alarmed. It was scarier than it seems in retrospect because it didn't happen again and we won. We could not pass block. It seemed to me that Heup actually appeared (on re-view) to pull the reins in at the end of the second quarter. He didn't use time outs on Okie's last (stuffed) drive to conserve clock, and didn't try to score the final seconds per his usual mode. I need to rewatch that second half. I presently dread rewatching last night's debacle, but I'll prolly do both this week.

It's a worry that the OT regulars appeared to have so much trouble last night. I think he will have a plan for Florida.

I prefer a bigger WR catching that because he can break a tackle. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more TE down the seams…I think it’s open.
That imo may be one remedy. I thought we would see it last night. The WRs being so wide, their routes take longer to develop, especially if the DB plays the shorter option to force a longer route.

I just don't understand what's up with the play calling when the players have shown they can execute certain plays. W just haven't called the plays in 2 games now. No wacky formations Heupel is known for either. Just vanilla stuff with the same play call pattern.

"We got 5yds on 1st down again, what do you wanna do now?"

"You already know, run it up the middle, don't ask me again!"
