Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Each game stands alone. I was at the Pitt game in 2022 where we could have put it away and didn’t. Pitt team goes 9-4, and we end up beating UF and Bama.
Well Pitt had one of the best d-lines in the country

NC State does not have dudes like that at all. You stifle Heups offense by disrupting them upfront. Doesn't look like they'll do that.

Nc State is much better at the skill positions though. I could see them putting some nice plays together to catch us off guard.

Context –

Jeff Sagarin in his model ranks all 263 FBS/FCS teams together so it provides some idea of where everybody fits relative to the whole. jmo.

ESPN FPI only ranks FBS teams. It’s all about math. I think we fell 16 spots in FPI last year the day after the APSU game. FPI updates every night.

Arkansas jumped up 16 spots to #28 in FPI after their win on Thursday but this next week they go to Okie state as a 9.5 point dog according to Vegas. State first has to contend with South Dakota State on Saturday. The cowboys are favored by 9.5 points. SDSU is #1 in the FCS poll and Sagarin has them at #44; he has the cowboys at #17.

FPI dropped NC State by 30 spots after their win at home over the catamounts. Going into that game Vegas had us as a 4.5 point favorite over the wolfpack in charlotte. The line on some books has so far moved up to 6.0.

On paper NC State is the 2nd least talented P4 team on our schedule. I don’t think I’m being wild-eyed when I say I think our 2nd team on both sides of the ball this year could beat the catamounts. jmo.

In the preseason I noted what I thought were issues with our OL last year, especially in the redzone. Cooper, in his most business-like media session I’ve seen, said this week both he and Karic have gotten stronger. He said he’s improved his athleticism. Joey said in the preview show that the new younger guys have pushed the older OL guys this year and he has seen “explosive” growth. In the 2nd camp scrimmage it was reported that Lance Heard held his own against our DL. Both Josh and Joey have said we worked extensively on redzone during camp.

All of my offseason “concerns” have been addressed. I’m hopeful about our secondary and I think it’s reasonable to be hopeful. We’ll see how they do. I do think we’ll be much better at WR and probably at TE as well. We’re likely also better at LB. At LEO behind Pearce we will have Josephs and I think that’s a step up from Harrison who I thought was too slow. jmo.

I checked. We were a 4.5 point favorite over Iowa going into the Citrus bowl with a makeshift OL and WR corps. So against the #4 scoring defense of ’23 we sort of prevailed with relative ease. I think NC St probably has a better offense than Iowa had but I doubt the same could be said for their defense. jmo.

I’ve said I think we have to make it to the first bye week to figure out what we have for a team this year. If, as I expect, we are undefeated at that point then we have a 3 game stretch to get to the second bye week. If at that point we are still undefeated I think we’re a lock for the playoffs with 5 games remaining. Don’t get cocky and we’re in. jmo.

Also, again, as others have shared, according to Josh, the playbook is “wide open” with Nico. Let’s Go! #GBO

Of course I wasn't living during the season Hornung won the Heisman like some of you were but he led Notre Dame in:

Passing
Rushing
Scoring
Kick-off and Punt Returns
Played defense
Plus kicked 14 extra points

Also given the nickname "Golden Boy"

No way your beating that.🧐

And he ball hogged his way to lead his team to HOW MANY LOSSES? The fix was in. End of story.

Horning was a poor passer. He had a 3-13 touchdown-interception ratio the year he won the Heisman! He threw an interception once every 8.5 passes. He was a really good running back.

He was a disappoint with Packers because they wanted him to throw and they somehow couldn't figure out what to do with him. That is, until Lombardi got there, put him at half back, and made the power sweep his signature play. Then he was lit.

Yeah this part I don't agree with though. He never ran for more than 700 yards in a single season and only rushed for 500 yards three times in his career.

Jim Taylor and Bart Starr were the stars of those Packer teams.

Majors got bent over, it was a screw job, and everybody with a freaking brain knows it...so save your snark for some of the more unlikely ones.
Yes daddy. I don't give two ***** whether you like me or not. Just keep on keeping on I'm over your better than me bs you pull every day.

BTW we both know we don't really like each other .

Their decades of misery are largely self-imposed. The university doesn’t care about football (or sports at all, really), and most of the institutional apparatus openly disdains intercollegiate athletics. At least they did when I was there. My advisor liked to brag about the role he played in killing Colorado football during Gary Barnett’s tenure.
Why in the world would they sell their reputation and soul to Sanders if they don't care about football/sports?

I should have taken more advantage of our god awful years to get club tix. I don't think I'll ever be able to check off that bucket list item. Just looking at those videos of the clubs and boxes is unapproachably rich.
Probably be a lot easier (and cheaper) to make friends with someone who has seats there, 😂

Are there deion supporters?
He's one of my favorite athletes of all time..............but he has so many childish moments as a coach.

I will say this.............People are talking about Colorado and watching them. That's because of him. He's made them a "product" that people talk about.

I like the way the Vols are getting talked about. . . because of our play and winning. . . Deion is a smokescreen. If they start winning the noise will be absolutely unbearable. . .

(truly) wealthy people be like

"Oh, huh, yeah, you can have my tickets to the box for the Alabama game. We'll be in [very elegant, exclusive resort or location] for three weeks. Have fun."
Yes, that's the people I need to know. . . and hopefully marry their favorite daughter. . .

How important was NC St's player that got ejected? He'll miss the 1st half of our game? Do you always miss half of the next game or does it depend on when you're ejected?
