Recruiting Football Talk VIII

August 28, 1884

Michael Francis “Mickey” Welch was the first pinch hitter in the history of baseball and the third pitcher to accumulate 300 wins for a career.

On August 28, 1884,, Mickey struck out the first nine Cleveland batters he faced; a record that stands today. Compiling an extraordinary 309-212 record, Welch had a pair of career years in 1884 and 1885 posting records of 39-21 with 345 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA and 44-11 with 258 strikeouts and a 1.66 ERA respectively. In 1885, Welch won 17-straight games and finished the year with a .800 winning percentage while starting 56 games and completing 55. Mickey Welch retired with a 309-212 record with 1,850 strikeouts in 4,801 innings pitched and posted a career 2,71 ERA. The Veterans Committee elected Michael Francis “Mickey” Welch to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.

Heard that. I got thrown out a raft down into the table saw on the Ocoee. Banged up my leg up pretty decent and cost me a pair of boxers.
I got thrown out a couple of times too..we used to go rafting on the Ocoee just about every summer back in the day...it was an adventure and I loved it.

I will never understand the pu*** sissy crybaby scared mindset...it makes me wanna f'n puke.

This dude is a 🤡. He sucked for us anyway. To soft for our offense. And if I remember correctly he said Tennessee offense was to fast for him after transferring to UK. But okay lol
This is the time of the PC where VQ says his natural position is Guard, but that he played Tackle put of position.

This one. It is the extract. For some reason it settled a little at the end of my cup of coffee - kind of a Turkish coffee feel at the end, but @SSVol said he hasn’t had issues with dissolving. I didn’t dislike it - just a touch earthy at the end.View attachment 671166
Help bring me up to speed here... what does one take this for and have people had good experiences with it?

I clicked on both of A-to-Z's linked sources, and neither says anything about tempo. Click-bait-palooza.

I do seem to recall that the Boise St offensive coordinator that Stoops hired for this year -- Kentucky's 5th OC change in 5 years -- does run tempo. Either way, WGWTFA. Even Lube U fans are not buying it, as you will recall:

I wish Southern Miss would beat that KY jelly arse Saturday like they did the last time they played in Lexington in 2016.

Nobody has that type of depth across the board in the portal era.

I think you hope to reach a point where your backups are talented, even if they are young. The RS junior with game experience sitting behind the starter who plays at a similar level...those days are over.

Not at certain positions and not with our NIL structures in place

I remember when Klubnik claimed the Clemson offense last year was gonna be high-tempo, like Tennessee. . .

Most of these guys have no idea how fast our O really is, they just hear a coach say "increased tempo" and think they'll be going warp speed like the Vols. . . I'm surprised to hear Mincey claim they'll be faster than us, since he's played here.

I rafted the Gauley once. Got hung under the raft in a hydraulic and nearly drowned. To this day I still have issues from it. Every year, one or two people don't make it home from similar trips down the Gauley. I fly airplanes and ride motorcycles and high performance EUCs and nobody has ever accused me of being a sissy or a crybaby, but if my acute awareness of the risk of drowning makes you puke, then puke away.

Any smoke on any of the Vols who didn’t make 53 man rosters at least getting signed to practice squads?

I know about GJL.

Speaking of… considering Tennessee only has 4 corners on the roster, they ought to sign Kamal Hadden.

I just read that the NCAA rule for in-helmet communication says that communication will be shut off with 15 seconds remaining on the play clock or when the ball is snapped, whichever comes first.

Is this how the NFL does it?

Thinking outside the box! Alas, Hadden doesn't qualify, unless the NCAA has changed the rules again since 2023.

"If you are three years removed from your high school graduation date, you may enter the NFL Draft one time during your collegiate career without jeopardizing your eligibility; provided you are [1] not drafted by any team and you [2] declare your intention to resume intercollegiate participation within 72 hours following the NFL's draft declaration date.
