Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

After your comment, I decided to go ahead and get a battery backup system. The 2Kwh systems are a little more than I wanted to invest in until I see how much use it gets. I went with the Anker 1Kwh and 200W solar panel ... and made sure it had the the LiFePO4 battery.

all the Anker stuff I have has been rock solid. I have a little power bank for recharging my lap top and ipad - works like a champ and holds it's charge when not in use. the one that got jacked in my Amazon theft was another of the same that had a great Primeday deal

looked up that deal on Amazon - grabbed one (49% off). Appreciate the heads up.

For third party chargers and other small portable electronics like Bluetooth speakers and even cables Anker is my go to label. They make good durable stuff

I can hardly wait. 20 acres out in the middle of nowhere hopefully.
Land prices have sky rocketed. My daughter and her husband have been looking for two years. $10-$20 thousand an acre for anything within an hour of Knoxville. They have saved a significant amount of cash just can't find something they feel they can afford and then have funds to build.

Beautiful man. Wow. Looks like home.

Well, they were swimming.

Cold water lmao. Really cold.

I just saw on weather.com that on April 13, 2029, astronomers are expecting a cruise-ship sized asteroid to pass between Earth and the moon at a distance 10 times closer to Earth than the moon is. I think I’ve seen that movie!

This is insanely close then. People tend to greatly underestimate the distance to the moon from Earth...on average it is 238,000 miles away. You can fit all the planets in our solar system edge to edge between Earth and the moon. That said...1/10th of 238,000 is only 23,800 miles. About the circumference of Earth itself. That's really, really close IMO. I dont know what this object is made of, but usually they are metals/stone and I would bet something with that much mass striking Earth could be catastrophic depending on where it hit. Wonder how this object compares to other meteor strikes in the past? Hope these trajectory calculations are correct, and nothing happens in the next 5 years to alter this objects path...

I'm looking for something already built. 10 acres minimum.

I've been looking for awhile. I have also seen a lot of price cuts in the past month or so.

Correct. They were talking about it passing about 19,900 miles away from Earth. They said it would be visible to the naked eye in certain parts of the world.

They say that Meteor Crater in Arizona was formed by a meteor about 150 feet wide and hit with a force 150 times greater than an atomic bomb.

Apparently an average cruise ship is about 1,000 feet long and 200 feet wide, so I'm guessing a direct strike on earth could be an extinction event.
