2024 Presidential Race

It's an archaic belief. It doesn't reflect life in the year 2024. Most households don't include a professional athlete, and the reality that two incomes are necessary to raise children. That has nothing to do with anyone's religious beliefs. It's a socio-economic reality. At best, Butker was guilty of having a narrow perspective.
Ok. And why does the left not freak out on the same level about Islams treatment of women and homosexuals? Totall pass for them. Oh boy but not this guy.

I'm not freaking out or outraged, and I don't care who the field goal kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs is. I've simply said that I believe his comments were archaic in nature.

This is nothing kore than left wing dog whistle tactic. It’s his beliefs and they aren’t archaic because you say so. And no two incomes aren’t needed to raise children. Responsible financial decisions are.

Many people spend their money on ridiculous things that are not necessary. Is it necessary to have a large home? An expensive car? Multiple flat screen TVs? Eating out multiple times a week? Getting Starbucks every day? Always habit the top of the line cell phones, tablets and PCs? No it’s not.

He doesn’t have a narrow perspective. You do.

Ridiculous .... Depends heavily on goals and ambitions. I believe that a woman should have career ambitions. If it is her choice to not work after marriage? Great. If it is her choice to pursue ambitious career goals regardless of marital status? That's great too.

I believe that a woman should have career ambitions.
Why is your choice any more correct for an individual? Your perspective is archaic. A man telling a woman what she should do. Not even just an individual woman. But all of women.

Being a stay at home parent is a good and honorable choice. There's nothing wrong with that.

Sure .... that just isn't a viable choice in many cases.

I should have phrased my comment to be more specific, "I have encouraged my daughter to perform well academically and pursue career goals, so she will have more options later in life."

Where in his speech was he saying the opposite? He did not tell anyone they shouldn’t get an education or skill.

When he described being a homemaker as a "vocation," and then went on to talking about his wife .... he seemed to be saying that this was what a woman should be. At least, that was how I interpreted his comments.

Is this subject important to me? No.

It doesn't ...... That was a quip in response to another post.

For the record, I don't agree with his line of thinking because it's not feasible for the average family these days. However, I can see where he is going with it. The breakdown of the family is one of the great American tragedies. It has traditionally stemmed from the lack of manhood in our society. Now I believe that has spurred the mindset of female independence and rebellion related to role of the man in the family in many circles. The role should be one of mutual respect for each other. I also understand that that doesn't mean it will always work out.

That's basically what I've been saying. Not every woman marries a professional athlete .... or even someone with prospects for ever having a decent job. Some marriages don't last very long. Options are good.

A commencement speech is typically given by a notable figure.
This is a Moron telling lies to young black men that they are being killed in streets.

It's not my place to put myself in another's shoes, but I have to think that a lot of our black fellow Americans are offended by crap like this. I would hope that, were the roles reversed, I would be. This is asinine pandering and an insult to our brilliant and talented citizens of every diversity.

Republicans don't mind it when black people vote .... just as long as it's all from within the same district.

He speaking to a bunch of college grads. And said some would go on to lead successful careers. There's not really a way for you to claim he's telling women not to get an education.

He's showing an example of the benefits of being a stay at home parent to the entire family. Choosing to be a full time parent is an example of having a vocation. And you're acting as if that's a negative.

I see it differently. It sounds to me like he was telling young women that they should strive to be "homemakers." I'm not saying it's a negative. I'm saying that it isn't practical for a lot of women anymore. His perspective is limited to the household of a professional athlete's.

So ... I guess, we disagree.

No, his perspective also includes how he was raised as a child and how his household was structured. And his parents definitely aren't professional athletes.

During his commencement address, Butker didn't convey an understanding that :

1) The majority of women who earn college degrees today, aren't just looking for a husband and becoming a housewife while they are in college, as may have been the case 50 years ago. They have ambitions of pursuing a career in a particular field once they have graduated. In the year 2024, it is odd to be talking to female college graduates about the virtues of being a "homemaker." Not that there is anything wrong with being a homemaker, mind you.

AND

2) That for a majority of young women, simply being a "homemaker," will not be a viable financial option for her household.

In my estimation, his perspective is a narrow one, limited to his own life's experience. Now, I have already spent more time on this, than I wanted to. It's really not that important to me.

We disagree. I'm not passing judgment on your differing opinion. This happens sometimes.
