More to the point what would once have been considered "hard" Left or even "Left wing crazy" is way closer to center now. That, IMO, is what Maher is describing.

Just to keep it thread relevant it was not long ago at all when the idea that a person packing penis being be nominated as NCAA Woman of the Year would sound ridiculous but here we are.

What does any of this have do with the question at hand?. Maher has spent decades openly and unapologetically being Left by any possible interpretation of mainstream political convention. That same position looks more Right depending on where you are politically. (Remeber the West analogy earlier?) Just watch this from the man himself and then go your merry way believing what you will. It's obviously laced with comedy and not some great treatise on the matter but absolutely gives context.



A few takes which point out where what is now increasingly en vogue with the Left and not so with what he believes or in fact ever has.

I hate that I missed out on all the fun in here after making the seemingly innocuous (and obvious to many) post that got Nash started.

Bill Clinton would be a Republican today and considered "right wing" by the Socialist Dimwits of today. Obama and his policies would be considered "centrist"...and that is both worrisome and embarrassing for this once greater nation. Barry is the one who had the brakes removed from this US freight train on its long descent into destruction and Hell. His socializing of the medical industry (by FAR the most expensive aspect of gov.) His DACA act and opening of the floodgates for invaders, his ruining the military and 3 letter agencies by installing partisan liberal leaders at every level etc set the stage for this wasteland our country is becoming...and thats just the domestic damage. Yet the Socialist Dimwit party has gone SO FAR left now that even his unprecedented damages pale in comparison. It seems that many lifelong "liberals" are realizing how batsheit crazy the Dimwit party has become as it has slowly been taken over by idiots like AOC who openly call themselves "Democratic Socialists" and "Social Democrats". The people waking up and realizing that the Dimwit Party has gone off the rails and left many folks behind is reeally the best chance we have of returning to some semblance of sanity and order as a country. The conservatives need to welcome these folks with open arms and be willing to compromise a bit...at least on social issues i guess.

His argument is that the left hasn't changed. Sounds like they have. Look up the Clintons and the Defense of Marriage Act if you want it tied to this thread or Obama's early speeches about Gay Marriage (he was initially against it).

Frankly, the Democrats only care about votes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Yes, they have gone far to the left to the point that they look like they would be MAGA with their view points in the 1990s or 2000s.

No question about that. That Clinton clip showed how Democrats have even restricted their language. Clinton used the term "illegal aliens" numerous times. You'll never hear someone in Biden's administration use that term now

When did Bill Clinton shift to the right? He now supports gay marriage. Bill Clinton, quite frankly, was never a man of ideology. He was a politician who shifts his views when public opinion shifts. But he's far better than what we have now in the Dem party

Clinton has not. The last umpteenth pages have been filled with arguments that Bill Maher has/has not shifted right. He, no more than Clinton, has shifted. He is pro gay marriage.
He is pro choice.
He is pro gun control.
He is pro taxation.
He is pro legalization.
He is pro universal healthcare.
He is anti religion.

He certainly diverges from the Lefitst Progressive fringe of the Democrat Party, and frequently speaks out against all things DEI/Social Justice/Woke/Trans.
