I don't think he ever displayed the discipline needed to adapt and be elite in an environment like today, right? I could be wrong, but everything I read about him said he just showed up and was better than everyone else willing to play baseball at the time.

There's no way that attitude and approach would work today. I very well could have a flawed opinion of him, but what little I've read suggested he would not have done well in the insanely competitive meritocracy of competitive sports today. Natural ability isn't all you need anymore.
He is considered by many, not by me, to be the best player of all time. It was a different world with a different culture. He grew up over a 100 years ago. There were a lot of elite players in his era and all of them were probably in better physical condition. He would have adapted. He's an incredible talent.

MLB was the equivalent of HS baseball back then though…

Good Lawd. . . I leave yuns alone for 1 Friday night and you let the cats beat us? . . really though. . . my stomach didn't feel good about playing in Lexington, but I thought it was just the chili-cheese burritos.

What's a synopsis of the game? Bad pitching? Bunch of errors? UK is just really good?

It's truly amazing. Babe Ruth was the GOAT for decades, if not still...yet dude could would never survive any other pro sport...well, maybe hot dog eating.

Again, baseball no doubt takes great skill, like golf, but that isn't what most consider elite athleticism.
Completely different time period. Babe would be nothing more than a DH in today’s game.

Take a good baseball player and they can handle their own in other sports. Take a world class athlete that’s never played baseball before and he’ll be terrible

John Kruk once said, “I’m not an athlete. I’m a baseball player.”

After returning from surgery for testicular cancer he also said, “If you don’t like the way I play, I’ll take my ball and go home.”

yes.

It’s not a normal part of the game. I’d wager triple plays are more common than hole-in-one’s are.

I am curious though. PGA players - what is the average fairways hit, or greens hit?
Tour average GIR...............65% 11.5/18 (leader 85%)
Tour average FW...................62% (leader 74%)

Nice…….
I’ve played for 47 years. Never made one

Not in your league, best handicap I had was +4 for a half dozen years after I retired. But had 4 over the years. One was crazy luck as a kid, the other three were good shots that just found the hole - two with a PW and one with a 5 iron. But far better than any of those in my mind was the one albatross I had. Driver and a two hybrid. That was the one I will always remember. I retired the hybrid after that one.

It is insane how it happens when there are far better golfers like yourself still waiting on one. Hope you get it and let us all know about it!
