Recruiting Football Talk VII

I truly can understand why soccer fans get extraordinarily violent, it is the pent up frustration of having to watch a soccer game that causes it. I also understand why it is so popular in much of the world, because it is such misery to live in much of the world that soccer is a step up.
In America we have it good and we have better things to do.

I’ve been following this all morning. The videos are nuts! I’ll be curious to see why it happened. They’re saying it doesn’t appear to be intentional, so I’m guessing a medical emergency with the captain of the ship.

They are saying now that it appeared to lose power and was smoking prior to impact. 6 people still missing.

*I was going back to add Radar O'Reilly, he definitely deserved a place on the list. Earnest T Bass is his own entity. No category can hold him.

The most underrated character on Andy Griffith was the guy who played half the criminals and some of the police officers and a grocery store owner and and an Army recruiter and a couple of the general miscreants that the Mayberry boys had to deal with.

You know the one.

I like watching old shows…. you will see the same actors/actresses playing different roles….An example is Matlock…. Nancy Stafford plays a hooker and later his law partner.

It's WBB though. How many people are true hardcore fans of WBB? It's kind of like the baseball program is for a lot of people. When TN is good people follow when we aren't it's an after thought. With MBB good or bad it still has a pretty good sized following.

I have to assume it's part of the youth and not being around when Pat was active, but this isn't even close to the same as the baseball program.

In women's hoops, Tennessee has finished among the top eight nationally in average home attendance for 28 consecutive seasons (through the 2022-23 campaign), with the Lady Vols leading the nation 18 times since 1994-95.

On Dec. 9, 1987, the Lady Vols set a (then) world record with 24,563 showing up to see Tennessee battle Texas.

In 1998-99, the Lady Vols played before an average crowd of 16,565, the largest average home crowd in the history of women's collegiate basketball. In all, 231,915 fans viewed home games in Knoxville that season.

During the 1997-98 campaign, Tennessee set even more collegiate attendance records. On Jan. 3, 1998, the Lady Vols entertained a new women's collegiate record 24,597 fans for their game against Connecticut. A month later, the first advance sellout in UT women's athletics history occurred for the Old Dominion game in Knoxville, which 24,373 fans attended.

Tennessee again broke the all-time attendance mark during the 2001-02 season when 24,611 fans visited the arena for a No. 1-No. 2 matchup against Connecticut. It was set again in 2006 when the Huskies came to Knoxville in front of 24,653 spectators.

The women's basketball attendance mark was established at the NCAA Final Four when 29,619 people filled the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, for the semifinals and finals.

The women's basketball version of the popular show ESPN College GameDay originated from Thompson-Boling Arena on Jan. 26, 2023. It was the show's second visit to Rocky Top for a Lady Vols game.

So the Lady Vols average crowd attendance during Pat's tenure was close to 16k nearly every year...right now this past season it was nearly half that at 8.8k. Pat's draw would have been good enough to be in the top 10 for Men's basketball average attendance in 2023.

Fulmer interviewed both men and women, including Wes Moore, who wasn't interested but highly recommended Kellie and Jon Harper.
You think he may not have been interested in signing up for the former admin and dynamic at UT? It has to be more enticing and sellable currently.

i will never understand why some VolNation bretheren & sisteren feel it necessary to put down other VolNation bretheren & sisteren...we all love our Vols - some are BaseVol fans first, some are FootVol fans first, some are VolleyVol fans first, some are SoftVol fans first, some are BasketVol fans first, some are SoccerVol fans first, and some are LadyVol fans first But We’re all Vols. We should stand together and pull each other up, not put each other down.

I love the lady Vols and not trying to put their fans down in general. Some of their fans do seem to have an issue with other programs in the athletic department. A lot of them seem to think they do not get treated fairly and say things toward the other teams & fans when they see them get acknowledged or get a benefit they haven't recieved or feel entitled to. . .

Yeah, the networks had these stables of character actors that they would call in to audition for non-recurring roles, which you could get away with back in the days before devoted fandoms and internet chat boards. Now, continuity mistakes are much more frowned upon.

I get that it's not. Down in the dumpster worse than Vandy football bad, but it's not really close to championship caliber either.
I think you have a lot of casual fans that will follow closely if they are on the level of SCAR, LSU, Uconn etc..... but don't care as much because they're a tier or 2 down.

Also on the flip side you kinda have to look at it from DW point of view. Typically women's basketball isn't a revenue maker his job is to make the school money. If he has to sink 30 million into firing a coaching staff, to maybe bring in 15 I don't know too many people who would be quick to pull the trigger either.

Jerry Orbach on Law and Order. Played a defense lawyer in 1991, and the next season started a long run as Detective Lenny Briscoe. Didn’t appreciate his greatness for a long time.

How did the Lady Vol big wigs feel about that?

As I said, I've never known if that is true or not. I hope it's not. It handcuffs from the jump.

More and more, Lindy La Rocque is my phone call.

If Robert Culp walked into a Colombo episode, you knew the bastard did it. The only question was how?

I had heard Wes was very interested in the job.
He was open to talking about it, but it stalled there. Maybe Fulmer would have capitulated to a legacy hire anyway, but he didn't limit the search to former LVs. Not sure it would've been the Harpers otherwise and many were expecting someone else.
