Your better half chose wisely... thanks for sharing. dang onionsSo a "quick" update and a bit of info for anybody with a relative or friend with an iffy brain due to Encephalopathy. The last few weeks taking care of the wife have been tough - no dependable short term memory, lack of balance makes everything a trial, etc. Tuesday we had an appointment with the doctor and I asked about trying Prednisone for her - didn't talk about it for the head - just for all the body pains due to falling and being held up; but I had done some reading about it as a treatment for the head issues, too. We wound up discussing that part and I'm supposed to let the doc know the results. The wife rebounded significantly yesterday and today; she was wobbly tonight ... and still can't tell you the day of the week and keeps thinking it's August. But last night for the first time in a few weeks she got out of bed and made trips to the bathroom alone and without mishap. Prednisone can't be a permanent solution, but apparently it can address the inflammation for a short term.
Last week one bathroom trip started at 2:30 AM and ended about 3:30. It started with her deciding to get out of bed on her own and falling beside the bed. Got her up and walked her into the bathroom, and she said she couldn't go but was going to sit there until she did, so while I went to the other bathroom she decided to get up and go get underwear. I got back and she wasn't in the bathroom ... was on the floor in the guest bedroom where I had tossed clean clothes on the bed. Got her back in bed and she was convinced that part of the pad was still stuck in her ... we'd already been over that and I had given her a washcloth to clean up. The solution was an inspection and telling her there was nothing there but her. It really gets weird sometimes.
Yesterday she had physical and occupational therapy - one for the body and one for the head. One task was getting beads out of medicine bottles and putting them in a pill minder - I've taken over the real job. She did pretty well after a rocky start. The funny part was she might have problems following the label and deciding how many pills and day/evening or both, but she knew the meds and corrected the therapist's pronunciation and told him what they were for. The one she didn't know was for some kind of fungal infection - she had me look it up on my phone. The long term knowledge and understanding is there, so I'm hopeful things will resolve with time. I told her tonight she can make pancakes tomorrow that I'm tired of cooking.
Sorry you guys are going through this, we'll be praying for her, and you.So a "quick" update and a bit of info for anybody with a relative or friend with an iffy brain due to Encephalopathy. That is E5 in the Navy. Second class petty officer. As yall know my Dad was a full bird Colonel and Pappaw was a Master Sergeant. So for Pops only Generals outranked him...for Pappaw only Chief Master Sergeants outranked him among NCOs. Both 26 year career guys. Not only did I never, ever see either 1 of them try to "pull rank" on someone or be a butthead to somebody....my Mom nor Granny would never dream of that crap. They were under no delusions that their spouses ranks somehow made them superior to...more important than...or somehow entitled them to be ahead of anyone elses spouses. Is this a new "entitlement" type mental disorder? Or just the most Boot thing ever? Also why does that sticker only show the downward chevrons? Is her husband a Staff Sergeant and the 3 upward chevrons are implied? Or is that an inverted Corporal? That is so very weird and crazy. On base or off..if either 1 of those 2 great men ever thought i did something stupid like that sticker to ever make them/our family/our name look bad they would have killed me. Either of them would hold a door for anyone, give up their place in line to someone behind us that only had a few items etc. They were both very humble and helpful guys that loved the (usually young) men that served under them. By the time my Dad retired most of the guys that served in his unit werent much older than my sister and I. He treated those guys and occasional lady like they were family and always played on their softball teams on base. Thats where i got to really see how much they all cared about eachother and had eachothers backs thru divorces, kids, you name it. I learned a lot about leadership from him and that if you really treat people well, they will work much harder for themselves and the group than if you're an azzhole. It seems like that bumper sticker and the ridiculous attitude it represents are the exact opposite of that. This isnt the 1st time i have heard of a Dependa saying that...but its the 1st sticker I have ever seen. I hope thats fake lol.

You know the drill tonight…lolThank you. So it is the same as a Staff Sergeant in the AF. I don't know the different ranks for the Navy sadly. Both my folks were AF and I was in Army JROTC in school so I can remember those but I have never even been on a Navy base as far as I can remember anyway. Have toured a couple ships though like the USS North Carolina in Wilmington. Those guns on Battleships were amazing. Cool to climb all around the ship. Nice place to visit, wouldn't wanna live there haha.

Eating at Pops in Oklahoma. They have something on tap I've not seen since I left Tennessee...
Cheerwine
Its from where I live. Bottling plant is bout 15mins away for Cheerwine and Sundrop. Cheerwine/Dr Pepper are what I drink whenever Dew isnt on the menu. My wife loves Sundrop but I dont really like it to be honest. It tastes more like Sprite even though its green like Dew. Cheerwine/Sundrop is usually cheaper around here than Coke or Pepsi products I guess because of the plant. Moon Pies or RC cola are hard to find over here in NC but all over Tennessee. Honestly the best local product from the Carolinas is probably Bojangles. Their breakfast is great. Only Hardees even comes close for fast food.
No Dr Enuf?
I dont think Ive had that one? In fairness...the Dr Pepper clones at grocery stores with names like that usually taste almost exactly like the real thing. I have never tried anything with "Mountain" in it that wasnt battery acid/dog piss flavored though lol. Apparently it is REALLY hard to make a fake soda taste like...Dew which really doesnt have much identifiable taste at all? Maybe thats what makes it so hard to duplicate?
