The Tennessee men's basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. The No. 2 seeded Vols defeated Butler 76-71 in overtime at the East Regional.

JaJuan Smith hit four straight free throws in the final 13.6 seconds of overtime and the Volunteers held on for their win over Butler in the second round of the NCAA tournament, barely surviving a game they at times threatened to turn into an East Regional rout.

It was the first second-round game featuring two 30-win teams, and it definitely lived up to the distinction.

The Vols (31-4) scored six straight points inside after the Bulldogs took their first lead in the final two minutes of overtime, including benched guard Ramar Smith's basket with 27 seconds left to make it 72-68.

Butler (30-4) still wouldn't go away. Pete Campbell followed a missed shot to make it 72-70 with 16 seconds left. JaJaun Smith then made both free throws, and Julian Betko rebounded a missed 3-pointer by A.J. Graves and was fouled with 4.9 seconds left for Butler. He made 1-of-2 from the line, and Smith grabbed the rebound before icing the game with foul shots at the other end.

Wayne Chism finished with 16 points to lead the Vols, while Tyler Smith chipped in 15.

Dang. Tyler Smith had so much potential.

How does a Power 5 conference tournament champion lose to a Ivy League school? Who BTW doesn't offer athletic scholarships .

Auburn lost to a team of future Politicians 🤪
Wore themselves out over 3 straight days for a backup trophy...

Then got embarrassed on national tv in the real tourney 😆

I take it as...if you're only a 3.5 pt favorite as a 1-seed in the round of 32...there's something with ya...

If only we could get to the bottom of it 🤔

I have always been of the belief that an outcome that utilizes such multiple data points and stats is not scientific and is random variance without a large enough sample.

Like all 4 point underdogs playing any team north of the 38th parallel in a night game againt a Kenpom top 20, are 6-1.

Of course I bet the Bills in multiple straight Superbowls, and bet them the fourth time thinking the law of probability losing 4 straight were pretty astounding, so what do I know.

Barnes prefers to recruit defensive minded athletes and teach them offense….. I wish he would do the opposite.
I think he would love to have more guys like Knecht...offensive guys that aren't lazy pieces of 💩 and want to learn how to be a complete player...sadly there does not seem to be hardly any of those.

I hope more kids see what Knecht has accomplished here and follow in his steps...I really believe that if we had just 2-3 excellent(not merely good, but consistently dangerous)offensive players to go with a typical RB defense, that we would win a NC.

But it will always be the flaw in a RB program because those kids want to go somewhere they don't have to work so hard on something they don’t think matters that much.

By committing unforced turnover after unforced turnover, missing FTs, missing wide open shots, missing easy layup after easy layups, playing great team defense half the time and sloppy lazy team defense the other half of the time....that about covers it.

They had one of THOSE games and paid dearly for it...it was amazing that they still should have won the game despite all of the crap they did and didn't do.

Also. . . how could he even manage that? No straps anywhere, loose straps? He must've plowed his brakes pretty hard to get a launch like that, 😂
I watched that exact same thing happen in the lane next to us on Gulf boulevard in St Pete Beach once...the guy was going 30-40 mph and somebody pulled out of hotel lot right in front of him and he slammed his brakes on...and that happened.

We stopped to see if they were ok, and the guy (in shock) said he wasn't going far and didn't strap it down like he usually would.

They were ok...but just like in that pic, his truck was destroyed and the boat had a ton of damage.

Admittedly I have skipped many pages the last few weeks as it’s really just another game day thread.

I’ve called myself looking but can someone explain what’s going on on football practice? Haven’t seen a post giving the practice sessions. Are they off for a few days? TIA for helping me out!
