I just find it extraordinarily hard to believe with how seriously Japanese culture takes “honor” as a concept.. that after 12 years his best friend would **** him like that.

I also don’t really think shohei is oblivious to baseball history with how obsessed he is by the sport to know who Pete rose is.

He probably did just try to bail his friend out of debt and didn’t realize how illegal what he had just done was

Coming back to this- I should also mention that debt is the leading cause of suicide in Japan, a country that also has the highest male suicide rate on earth. It’s a lot bigger deal to be in debt over there. They don’t have the same protections we do concerning it.

There is something to say about baseball getting so expensive that Americans who could’ve been great just chose to play basketball or football instead.

Bats were $150 or so when I played. High, but not insane. They’re $400+ now. Ridiculous. Being left handed, my gloves were more expensive too lol. I have no idea what handedness had to do with pricing but whatever

Good analogy. Games have been subpar, even by first round standards. Right now, though, Oakland is lighting it up from 3-point range against Kentucky.
