Shohei was gambling. That guy and shohei are closer than brothers. I doubt he’d have access to Ohtani’s bank that wasn’t allowed by Ohtani himself. There was even a clause in his contract that he could leave if ippei was ever fired.

Everyone has vices, and like Pete Rose, I don’t really care as long as he didn’t bet against himself. But this is a cover up, and Ippei is the fall guy from what I can gather so far.

Yeah they were tied at the hip. There is always the chance Ohtani had no clue the funds were being used for gambling but I’m with you, he had to know something was up if they were that close.

I am willing to bet, no pun intended, that Ippei will live very well in Japan on Ohtani’s dime after this. Ohtani doesn’t want to be Pete Rose’d, and Ippei is probably willing to put his neck out for him.

One reporter states he only opts out if Mark Walter or Andrew Friedman gets fired from Dodgers front office.

Another reporter says if the Interpreter gets fired. Who the hell knows and at this point who the hell cares.

I like ohtani. I’ve said it several times that I follow the NPB because of the Pro Yakyuu and PawaPuro video games that I import. I’ve followed him since 2015 or so

But it’s hard to believe he didn’t have some idea what was going on. It’s also hard to believe he’s a gambler or even really cares about money that much. It’s an interesting story.

Put that guy on the stand and let him deny it under oath. Ohtani will end up getting some kind of punishment just for having his name attached to this and him voluntarily sending money to pay off the debt. If he had just said “I’m not paying that off for you” and gone on his way then he probably wouldn’t get punished. Sports leagues are taking gambling very seriously and they don’t want fans thinking games are fixed, even if bets weren’t placed on their own sport. Not a good look for Ohtani and MLB will want to make this go away quickly.

Pete Rose was by seemingly all accounts a despicable human being. Seems like there are numerous reasons why MLB would not want to give Ohtani the Pete Rose treatment, would seem very unlikely, regardless of what happened.

They can track technology and see where funds are wired from so it will be easy to see if Ohtani used his personal computer/phone or if it was Ippei’s device. There’s no way to hide stuff like that from the feds in today’s world. Somebody’s truth on it will come to light sooner or later.
