The Atlanta Braves

Until they start playing tournament games in TBA, I think this'll continue to happen. They haven't been the same team away from home for several years now, and it was really pronounced this year.

Miss St also just has our number. 0-2 against them this year; neither game at TBA.

Small sample size, but every time Barnes has been a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAAT he's at least made it through the first weekend:

2002-03: 1 seed, Final Four
2005-06: 2 seed, Elite Eight
2018-19: 2 seed, Sweet Sixteen (still have nightmares)

Interestingly enough, in each of those 3 seasons he lost in the championship game of the conference tournament.

Mississippi State plays a tough and physical kind of game which is NOT Tennessee's strength.

Barnes and March is, unfortunately, one of those popular narratives that is as accurate as everybody thinks it is. Usually popular narratives/talking points like that are exaggerated, or a half-truth...this one isn't.

It seems really weird the same thing happens every year. They look like they have dead legs every March and their shooting goes to ****

Barnes runs a pretty physically demanding system, and supposedly does not let up in practice all year.
I saw some quotes yesterday, apparently Slay watched TN practice the day before and said we had a really hard one but the players seemed super locked in.

The bigger problem to me is, the 2 in the South was getting decent draws, now they're predicting it to be super tough. This is the latest one.

This team is pretty soft.
They definitely were yesterday, and I would say that Vesco and JJJ are routinely soft players and have been for their entire UT careers. I wouldn't say that this year's team is a soft team though.

Speaking of JJJ, I know recruiting is a very inexact science, but how did the evals miss so much on him? He was a 5-star, one-and-done in 2018. He's still in college 6 years later! I know that he's been hurt quite a bit over his career, but that doesn't explain everything.

That is certainly a take.

Why is that a bad fit? Tennessee is far from not physical. We play tough defense. Just got punked yesterday.
Because Vescovi, JJJ, Gainey and ZZ are the ones who get open looks and they’re streaky as hell. If they’re not knocking down shots, Knecht and Aidoo end up in a wrestling match. It also doesn’t help that Vescovi and ZZ aren’t a huge threat going downhill to the rim. We dribble into the lane with no intention of shooting more than any team I can remember. Nobody is soft. They’re just limited.
