Recruiting Football Talk VII

College football was better before NIL and the transfer portal. It seems like some TN fans just hate anything that Saban ever says. I hate him but I agree with him. Commitment means nothing anymore and neither does loyalty to a team. Having to constantly recruit committed players because of a paycheck is ridiculous.
College football was better when coaches weren't making obscene amounts of money. But I bet Saban has no problem with that.

Would Saban coach Alabama for free? Doubt it.

It’s just very hypocritical for Nick and his wife to bitch and moan about kids wanting their fair share as they sit in their $20m beach house. Saban would be selling cars if it wasn’t for the cash cow that college football has become.

Bama’s been paying kids for decades. Suddenly the playing field is evened and now it’s an issue?

Yeah, the current landscape does suck, but it’s better than the alternative of which we had absolutely 0 parity at the top of the game. UT would NOT be where they are right now without NIL/ portal - it would take half a decade to replicate the 2022 season with the mess Heupel took over.
Let’s be honest. Almost every team has been paying kids for decades. It’s nothing like it is now. And let’s be honest about something else. If not for coaches like Saban, there would be a ton of kids never attending college or getting to the pros.

Funny how in Fulmers prime there was no NIL or portal and we were in better shape than we are now. You think the playing field is leveling out? How?

Nor should he. This is the way the business world works. The bosses always make more than the employees.
LOL what?! The business world works by people making what the market is willing to pay them.

How many nfl coaches make more than their star players? NBA? Premier League? MLB? NHL? You have a poor understanding of how the business world works.

Plenty of great coaches before Saban, and they weren't paid millions to coach a game. When the schools and the networks and all the talking heads made football all about the money, that's when football started down this path. You can't rake in obscene amounts of money off the blood, sweat, and tears of young kids then cut them out. Would I prefer football be like it once was? Absolutely. But it goes much further back than NIL.
