Duke beats WF 10-8 for the series W
Burns is probably going to regretting his decision after this season. Wake is not the same team as last year. They don’t have the same offense and Hartle gave up 6 earned runs in the first conference game of the season to an average ACC team. They don’t seem to have quality pitching on Sunday either. Doesn’t bode well for their outlook. I’m not rooting against Burns personally. I hope he has a heck of a season but you can’t look me straight in the eyes and tell me they are a better team. If he had reconsidered I’m fairly certain he would be starting for us again and we would be the prohibitive favorite to win the whole thing. I still think we have a great shot at it either way but it’s still hard to stomach someone of that caliber leaving because Tony made a decision that was best for all involved and it was a decision that ended up getting us to the CWS again. A lot of these kids coming up now don’t know what real coaching is and jump ship at the first sign of adversity. I’ll take Tony over every program in the country and a lot of major league teams too. He’s the best in the business and I don’t think it is really a debate.

I have yet to see Tony make a managerial decision that did not directly or indirectly benefit a kid. He does not burn arms out, he moves guys in and out of the lineup to give as much of a fair chance to become an everyday player, he moves kids up and down the batting order (without fully benching a kid who may be struggling some at the plate), all while compiling quite a bit of talent and competition within the team. Same goes for Frank Anderson. I have seen them give plenty of kids a fair chance at securing innings going forward. Seems like all they ask is to throw strikes. I will not air out anything on Burns and how I truly feel about the situation. Parents of players can be very fickle about things, some get it and quite a few don’t. Many on all levels think their child can do no wrong and should be playing more etc…I hope they all understand that not every player can be a superstar or have a pro career but to be able to trust a coach at a top tier D-1 school to not only ensure the best for their child on the field all while grooming them into men is a very rare thing. We have a great one in Vitello.

He may but right now he's on fire, in 23.1 innings has faced 89, has 43 SO while giving up 10 BB and 6 ER. I am guessing he's pretty happy. O work ain't to hard when you have those kinda #.

I hate that he's not wearing the Orange but I am not going to second guess him or Tony. Appreciate what he did for us.

I 100% appreciate what he did for us but he just started conference play and Duke isn’t the cream of the crop in the ACC. If I were a starting pitcher I would love a more consistent offense and better surrounding cast. He isn’t going to have that at Wake compared to Tennessee. He will pitch well regardless but his team success will not come close to Tennessee’s due to their offense. He won’t be happy bowing out in the regionals until he gets drafted #1 overall. Then he won’t have to worry about it. He can just worry about pitching for one of the worst teams in the majors from the prior year.

This is all true 100 percent true. But the pitching for one of worst teams is the price you pay for being a top notch player. Ask Chase Dollander if that juggernaut Colorado was his top choice?
