I 100 percent believe cholesterol is genetic.
I had a fitness elective senior year of college. I was in there with some real workout, health conscious fiends. Part of class was doing blood work. Mine came back with the lowest cholesterol by far.
My professor insisted I must have a great diet. I chuckled. Every day, twice a day i'd eat at main meal and have what I called a salad-less salad. Cheese, bacon bits, boiled eggs, ham, croutons and cottage cheese covered in ranch and thousand island!
My family’s cholesterol issue arrives at age 37. Just out of the blue. It’s like clockwork. Prior to age 37, my cholesterol was just like yours.
At age 37, I got a life insurance physical. Included a fasting cholesterol test. For the first time in my life, it was elevated. I had checked it every couple of years because of family history. So I thought that it was an insurance scam to keep me from getting the best rate (absolutely no trust in any insurance company whatsoever). I had it rechecked through my PCP’s office and it was confirmed to be elevated.
Now my family also has some good news on that front. We all respond very well to atorvastatin with no side effects. My Mom and oldest sister were already on it.
The interesting thing is that my sister’s sons both had sudden cholesterol elevations at age 37. I suggested that they start with atorvastatin. Both of their PCPs (different states) went with new and “better” 12 months of side effects and issues with the other statins saw them finally switched to atorvastatin with excellent results.
Now unfortunately, my oldest nephew is not ready into taking care of himself. Unbeknownst to the rest of his family, he just decided to quit taking his atorvastatin. He also had blood pressure issues and a significant weight issue. Not a good combination. At age 49, he had a heart attack. He’s still alive today, but lost his dream job because of it.
When he had his heart attack, I called my doctor and got a Cardiologist referral. I saw the Cardiologist, had a cardiac calcium test (CT scan that shows plaque buildup in coronary arteries). My score was ZERO. Totally clear arteries which equals almost zero chance of a heart attack. I love my atorvastatin

I had small children at tgat point, so I had to know.
If you have any issues with cholesterol or triglycerides, make an appointment with a Cardiologist and get the CT scan cardiac calcium test. It can save your life, or give you peace of mind. Especially if you have a family history of heart disease.
