Bama’s Sears

I agree Sears is a great player, but the refs really let him get away with too much. Watching the Bama UF game, he is taking 3-4 steps when he drives to the basket. How many steps do you get in basketball these days?
“2 steps and a gather”

I think they just have it confused with “2 claps and a Ric Flair”

If you are a highly touted star like player and very smooth and athletic you get up to 4 smooth steps. If you're a guy like Uros etc. if you lift your pivot foot on a turn, it's a clumsy guy walking. Streetball rules have bled into Pro & now college aided by the Euro step. Some say it makes it more exciting, it is what it is, the refs have adopted it amongst some other un-written rules.

I believe you have something there.

I suppose since they have taken the triple jump away from track meets, they had to migrate it into the basketball world….

One thing I noticed against Alabama, on a drive to the basket, Knecht got called for a foul, and one of the announcers said he put his front shoulder down into Sears, and that was what got the call. So, how many times did Sears do that very thing and not get called? Watching the highlights of Elephants and Gators from last night, Sears drives to the basket, front shoulder down and into the chest of the defender, and no call. Just asking for consistency in the foul calls.

Selected enforcement of the rules and lack of consistency is the biggest problem currently with officiating. It’s across the board in all sports.

If a 30+ point game in a 20 point loss with almost all of the points coming when the game was already well decided and into garbage time, and a stat line that included 0 assists or rebounds from a 'lead guard' is considered a 'positive' game when evaluating POY, then there is something seriously wrong with the parameters of the award.

A game like DK had at Alabama, when he realized he was the focus of the defense and turned himself into a 'decoy' of sorts, using his gravity and passing to free up others in winning a huge game on the road, is to me far more indicative of a great player worthy of an award like that.

But maybe that's just me.

This… I mentioned it in the game thread. Using the Knecht charge as a standard, Sears would’ve fouled out half way through the first half.

Your 100% correct about Sears getting favorable foul treatment.

I think your wrong on Knecht’s charge happening against Sears.

I think Dykes was searching for any reason to justify the call. It was just a bad call IMO.
