How are you going to play the biggest game of your life and don’t even know the OT rules? That’s wild to me.
The referee explained the rules at the coin toss, so if they didn't know the rules going in, they sure should have known them by the time of the kickoff

I think the best strategy under these rules is to go on defense first

Imo, one thing that wasn't explained until it almost came into play, or at least explained clearly. Was the timing, was there another quarter, was it only one? Imo that could've been explained more clearly.

Definitely should have gone on defense to see what dictated how they needed to operate on their drive. The Chiefs came out and said if the 49ers had scored a TD they had a plan to go for 2 and go for the win.

For what it's worth, I think all OTs should have these rules, not just in the post season. Of course I don't like the ghost runner on 2nd base either in MLB...
MLB extra inning rules are awful. Creates an unfair advantage for the hitting team and it skews stats due to there being a runner already in scoring position that didn’t earn that base. Anyone that has ever played baseball hates that rule. It’s not real baseball. NFL OT rules never made sense because you go through a 17 game schedule with one set of rules but they completely change all because they are in the postseason. Doesn’t seem fair to teams to have two completely different sets of rules for regular season vs postseason.
