Solid baseball players are not easy to find. Ozzie Albies is a solid baseball player. Hes a good hitter, he’s an average-above average fielder, very good baserunner. He switch hits. He demolished lefties. He’s practically been a 4 win player his entire career, which doesn’t exactly fall out of trees.

He’s turning 27 this year. Hes got 3,400 PA. He is strictly a 2B so he doesn’t provide any versatility. There really isn’t any upside with him anymore. He always outperforms his statcast number so future looks usually lower him over potential high upside guys like Gimenez or McClain. But he’s still a really good player.

The other pay with Ozzie is your paying him $7M for the next four years, which is insane because he gets at least $20M/year (na probably more) on the open market easily (he would have been a FA this year if he didn’t take the extension. So even though he’s not a top 50-60 player in baseball overall, he’s a top 20 value guy in all of MLB.

The swag that squad would have with Bauer on it would be hithero undreamt of.

But there is also the baggage that would come with having him and Ozuna both on the roster.

I’d say having Ozuna is exactly why you sign Bauer. Can’t save face if you don’t have one left to save!
