I love that area....my family is from the Sequatchie valley right around where Marion and Sequatchie county meet...and we used to go up to Fall Creek Falls SP at least once a year.

I always wanted to go over to Savage Gulf...but never got the chance.

I was the summer Recreation Director at Fall Creek Falls my senior year at UT (internship). That’s where I met Mr Smokin (we called him Boatdock ’cause he ran the boat dock for the summer ). I loved my summer there - so beautiful, so many memories and lifetime friends made there.

From the Bama side this week, following some transfers:

They weren't worried about the state of college football when they raided GaTech for their best RB, bragged about taking UGA's best WR, stole Vandy's best OL, the list goes on and on

But now that they have to play by the same rules as everyone else, it's just wrong!! Oh no!!

I mean, it's hard for me to consider Middle TN as part of the state, and don't get me started on Memphis and West TN. East TN is definitely the best part of the state.

Only one guy that has entered the portal from bama has ever played an important down of football that we were even capabale of getting. We could offer downs ten million and he still wouldn’t come here. The only other one that has played important football is Amos, and he only has 1 year left of eligibility

I realize that everyone has tagged you with the troll alert, but statements like this solidify that you know little to nothing about recruiting (high school or portal).

I don’t know why people don’t understand this. We took a freshman all American in the portal, and people are still questioning who we took.

Sure, but that also doesn’t explain the immediate drop-off. Downs, Grady, Williams, and entire secondary. In the current landscape Bama still pulled in a top-3 class. DeBoer doesn’t look like he’ll get there.

All in all, yes. NIL has massively leveled the playing field. In addition to that, going from Saban to DeBoer in terms of promised development / recruiting has narrowed the gap even further.

Thanks. I agree the process is greatly enhanced and sped up by the coaching change. But it was already in motion imo.

Also, Bama's NIL is not strong and it was a lot cheaper for Saban to buy players under the table using his NCAA immunity as compared to what is now open competition. Also the talent he stockpiles for the future or to keep away from others can now go elsewhere.

If we were in the Top 3 of a player that went to Bama, and they enter the portal, I'd be interested to see if there's any communication.

They went to AL thinking they were guaranteed a NC while in college. That dream has vanished. Most are looking to hop on the next most likely ship they think will get them there.

Would this be a loss for the Crimson Tide? Absolutely. I’ve said for over a year now that Downs is a transformative talent. His ability to handle multiple roles at an elite level — while also possessing rare football IQ — made a significant impact on UA’s secondary in 2023. This caliber of player doesn’t just grow on trees. We must be able to admit that.

Not only that, but the potential Downs loss is compounded by all the other departures on the back half of Alabama’s defense. So far, we’ve seen 10 defensive backs from the 2023 roster leave (or enter the transfer portal, at least), which includes the following players:

• CB Kool-Aid McKinstry
• CB Terrion Arnold
• S Caleb Downs
• S Jaylen Key
• CB Trey Amos
• S Kristian Story
• CB Earl Little II
• CB Dezz Ricks
• S Jake Pope
• CB Antonio Kite

There’s no reason to sugarcoat anything… that’s significant, whether it be from a talent or numbers standpoint. That’s six of the seven main contributors from this past season, plus several guys who were looked at as the future. That’s going to be a concerning development for Alabama fans who have been used to seeing high-level talent with both the front-level starters and depth.
