I thought when someone stated an opinion on a message board that meant they wanted to discuss it…???
I suspect that there's a clash of worldviews here. With a couple of generations that have been indoctrinated into the self-refuting philosophy of postmodernism, there are all too many people who deny objective, external truth and operate on the "my truth" mentality. As such, it's becoming more and more of a social feax pas to intrude on someone else's 'truth'.

So, someone can wrap their comments in the veneer of 'opinion' and try to escape criticism, with the thought that all opinions are equal. (If there is an objective external truth by which to judge them, they're not.)

And close-mindedness in the name of open-mindedness becomes a virtue.

Note how striking the comments are:

"I have to use rational thought enough at work. Don't expect me to do it all the time..."
"Discussion? <Mock your rational process.> You'll never change my mind, stop bothering me..."

That's not open-mindedness. It's closed-mindedness and a rigidity of... thinking? Would that be the right word? Is the celebration of emoting in place of thinking...thinking?

It truly is an odd time to observe the world around us.

Fair point.

When Saban retires, the Alabama coaching search will be the most interesting in college football history. Obviously, it's a great job with a ceiling as high as any. But the pressure of following Saban is so immense. There's almost no way to be considered a success (outside of winning 6 NCs). I think Kiffin is one of the few with the ego to handle that who would also be a big time hire. But if I'm one of these big time guys, I wanna be the guy who follows the guy who follows Saban.
It’s Butch Jones. His internship was just to get familiar with the place and get his bricks ready

Great I can buy into. Greatest I am not sure based on the number of different coaches that have done it there. Now, had he done that a few miles west in Starkville it would be pretty undeniable. Not sure I couldn’t get a few NC at Bama since I am not named Mike.
With their "resources" I'm sure many coaches could win there. Even @Jackcrevol .

If I remember correctly, he was supposed to be back in a limited or full status as early as January/February. I can’t remember the details of why the prognosis was better than expected though. Maybe doc can remind us when he sees this post in 2024.
I remember hearing AP say he was working with one of the best foot/ankle doctors in the country in California.

My greatest fear is Kirby exceeds Saban. No words.

Kirby isn’t gonna win NCs at 2 places. He isn’t gonna go to a school and basically put them on the map. He isn’t that good. I think Kirby is a really good coach. But he ain’t Saban and the likelihood that he ever will be is very slim.
