You keep talking about other people's bias. I think you're enamored by the SEC logo. I, and many others, do not think Bama and Georgia are somehow unanimously the best teams in the country. They haven't played Michigan. They haven't played Washington. When Bama played Texas, they LOST. You see SEC and automatically think they're the best. This was a down year for the SEC. Nothing about this season screams "they're the best". I mean, Bama barely escaped a 6-6 team before playing Georgia.

I said nothing of the SEC this year. It's clearly a down year.

I said that when watching championship weekend, which is the last week of the regular season, they were the two best teams. It's really that simple.

The "deserve" is a different argument. The team which played the best during the whole season is a different argument. Who will play the best in a month is a different argument.

The bias that you are reading into my post vs what I actually wrote is completely yours.

Just can’t get past the label of 13-0 conference champ. We’ve seen literally every year, a conference champ getting drubbed by a good SEC team. And no that’s not conference bias, I hate our colleagues; it’s just true. Now I don’t know that Alabama is better than a Jordan Travis-led FSU team. Him breaking his leg hurt their chance in a VERY SUBJECTIVE PROCESS OF CHOOSING playoff contenders.
Then the SEC and the BIG should toss double Gauldens to the AA and form a governing body between the two of them. The PAC is no more, the Big 12 is nobodies, and the ACC is meaningless apparently. The two mega conference champs play for the title each year and we are the NFL Lite.

Thornton has talent…give me him with Nico. Squirrel White? He had some drops late in the year, but he shouldn’t be left out.
We don't know what Leacock is gonna turn in to and I think Webb could transition in to a similar role as keyton. And I might be a bit surprised if Matthews doesn't figure in somewhere in the rotation.

You just keep misunderstanding the difference between chaos/excitement and quality. Keep trying. You’re doing great
So you’ve got nothing. Per usual.

You said better players = better product, which is demonstrably untrue. But you simply choose to slink away behind erroneous charges of “moving goalposts”.

Let’s roll wid it.

The college football from our childhood is dead anyway.

When it comes to the nfl, the product on the field is better than college. This whole entire convo has been regarding those two.

You decided to start comparing the Mets to this convo, which is moving the goalposts.

Sorry you’re brain doesn’t comprehend what moving the goalposts is. You should keep being more derogatory per usual since that’s all you bring around here apparently 😀😀

I understand that FSU couldn’t possibly compete on the battlefield known as @pierce60’s mind.

I would have preferred they be given a chance on the battlefield known as the playing field.
Last I’ll say on this, but in a sense - they did.

They were given a chance vs Florida & Louisville on the playing field. If they had looked like the same team - they’d be in. They didn’t.

Doesn’t make it fair.

They can go beat Georgia in the Orange Bowl, finish 14-0, and hang whichever banner they believe represents that accomplishment. And shut everybody up.

I just think this notion of “best” isn’t very useful, and not what the committee should be looking at.

Theoretically, you could have a team that started 0-3, and then rattled off 9 straight 20+ point wins against all the other “best” teams in college football. And if they tried to put them in over undefeated or one loss teams, the whole country would cry foul because they “didn’t deserve it”
for losing 3 games (and they would be right!).

“Best” could and should be interpreted as “most deserving,” which is really just “consistently best over the entire season.” Distilling the whole season down “who’s good now?” really devalues the sport.

I respect this opinion.

"Best" is certainly subjective. "Deserves" can be more objectively defined by stating "undefeated conference champion".

However, I will always, regardless of sport, believe the selection process ought to be selecting the best at that point in time synonymous with "the team with the best chance to win the natty" or "the team I would place my money on".

My only wish is that people could clearly articulate their position with regard to best vs deserving (instead of conflating them) and argue in good faith if making a case about the best (I don't believe half these posters would actually wager money on the teams they proclaim are the best).

The bolded is a subjective opinion. It is not factual. It is also an opinion I do not share. And all opinions have some measure of bias.

My personal opinion, I thought Washington played a damn good game. I didn't see the Michigan game to have an opinion. FSU played sloppy but won with defense while a third string QB filled in for a QB that will be back by the time the next game is played. So was Georgia and Bama better than FSU yesterday? Yes. Will they be better by the time the playoffs start? No idea. Was FSU better than Bama the weekend of the Iron Bowl? Yes. It can easily change week to week.

Does the whole season matter or not? FSU is an undefeated P5 champion. Bama is a one loss P5 champion. Bama also lost to the one loss Big 12 champion who is also in the playoffs. It's not a bias against Bama that makes me think FSU should be in over Bama. It's the record. Both FSU and Bama had strong performances and weak performances this year, but only one escaped undefeated, and it wasn't Bama. Simple logic tells me 13-0 is a better record than 12-1.

drvenner, king of the Dad jokes (or Peay depending on who you ask). Laughing at ourselves takes the insult away from the person giving it. Getting butt hurt over it makes Spurrier happy.

I'm also happy we retired him from college football coaching.....twice.
Thanks for the dose of sanity. It's been quite the day

The Mets had better players than most everyone - their product was crap.

You can put together an all star cast of actors (players) - and the product be crap. Happens all the time.

Not my fault you lack the ability to understand analogy.
