Recruiting Football Talk VII

Where does it stop, though? If you're going to make it all subjective, who's to say UGA isn't "better" than the four chosen? They were #1, undefeated for weeks with the longest win streak in the nation, and had one close loss on a night that wasn't their best. On a better night, when Bowers and McConkey aren't dinged up, UGA likely beats Bama (who almost lost several squeakers this year)... and maybe Washington... maybe even Texas or Michigan.

Bama has benefited from winning head-to-head and losing head-to-head in back-to-back seasons. Where's the line?

James L. Brooks had some great dialogue in "Broadcast News" about that. It's hard not to cross the line when they keep moving the little sucker. At what point is there no line at all?
It is all a fraud.

The line is an illusion. There was never a line to begin with, just predetermined outcomes with talking points to cover the corruption.
Yep. Which brings me full circle-- those in power do whatever they want, choose the teams they prefer for whatever reason they prefer them and spend minimal time creating talking points that loosely support whatever they're selling without caring whether anyone buys anything.

Exactly.

If it’s metrics with win/losses and conference titles then FSU gets in.

If it’s about four best teams. Then how could you not have UGA in?

They went against both and chose who they wanted in.
What makes even less sense is their reasoning. So, Bama is better than FL St because of the QB situation but GA isn't? FL St is ranked above GA. None of it makes any sense.

With so many different conferences that don't intermingle alot, it's hard to compare and contrast numbers, philosophies, worth, etc. It'll be political until we get the main p5 schools to separate and create a CBA.

It amazes me how many players and coaches on these teams that are cuddled and coddled college football participants want to carry on about how much adversity they have overcome. It is like they think they forage for a meal in dumpsters and live in their 2001 Corolla. You are playing freaking football games and now get paid to do it.

It shouldn't have even been an Alabama v FSU debate.

It should've been a Bama v Texas v Georgia debate for #4.

I fully believe committee members took payments to vote Bama. I have no evidence, but I believe it.

It should never be subjective. Who deserves it? The undefeated conference champion always deserves it. Then you fight out the conference champions with a loss.

That's exactly what it is. They choose the teams they want. Sankey had no doubt the SEC was getting a team in. If he had preferred UGA over Bama, the Tide would be rolling in outrage and misery today.

The conspiracy here was the malicious intent to damage another conference. The SEC and Big 10 by exerting pressure on selection process, inherently and materially damage to long term standing of the Acc. This both lifts perception of the 2 power conferences over the other 3. It’s part of long term plan to get to a true NFL style model, and shrink the teams in the money pool.

I feel awful for any team that’s left out as one of the chosen when it consolidates.

CFB is lost. I know the ncaa is flawed, but what is coming will be an abomination.

Mullen made a great point. The "best team" doesn't always win in real life. That's why you play the game.

You can't just take a preconceived notion of who is "better" and ignore the game results. Because that perception will still be there after the "better team" loses...so nothing will change that and the games are meaningless.

Deservedness has to have a place in all of this, ESPECIALLY when you've won EVERY...SINGLE..GAME.

Mullen also mentioned how you adapt. Lose your star RB or QB and you change it up. FSU did so on the way to 2 good, multiscore wins and would have Rodemaker back as well. That's impressive.

I think that argument loses a lot of steam when you have auto qualifier bids. Hey, guess what? Win your conference and you are in. Absolutely no subjectivity in that.
Don’t see how that matters. The arguments will still exist and I guarantee people will be up in arms about it.

I have been disgusted all year because of the obvious SEC screwing of our program...but this has just absolutely sickened me.

I hate all of it.

Remember when old invol said that this stuff was all orchestrated, crooked as hell, mafia level corruption?

It's already an abomination

Might as well call college football “Keeping Up With The Kar-Bammers”.

Is there anything Tennessee (Danny, Donde, Randy) can do to get in Sankey’s good graces? His blatant favoritism of Alabama and Georgia and soon to be Texas is a slap in the face to the other great institutions in the conference.

People will always be up in arms about everything. 80% of people on this forum believe in an SEC office conspiracy about how they want us to lose every game because we make the refs run too much. Or something.

The point is.. It becomes very easy to dismiss the argument against subjective standards when every single team has a non-subjective path to the playoff in week 1.

The only thing wrong in this post is that you misspelled Mehlen.

As long as Nick Saban is in college football, Alabama is going to get what they want. It is what it is. College football is Nick Saban’s world and the rest of the sport is at his mercy.

FSUs argument is essentially "what about the kids feelings?"

I obviously would have preferred no sec team but it's not surprising. Did we really want a for sure blowout because of feelings? I don't think it's going to be such an egregious issue next year and beyond.

Michigans reaction to it not being fsu tells you all you need to know.

I hope they still beat the crap out of Alabama.

FSU will lose to UGA. Badly imo.
Everyone knew UGA would wax TCU, yet they were put in because of being undefeated.

Why does that change now?
